How Much Do You Spend on the Easter Basket?

I make my own and limit the candy and add toys my daughter likes. Next thing I notice, it's up to about $50.00 and that is not including the recycled basket and Easter grass. What do you average, dollar-wise, on your kid's Easter baskets? Thanks.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

It was really simple and easy when she was under 5 - she was content with chalk, a stuffed toy and the most I spent was $20.00. Now that she is a bit older, I am finding it more challenging to find things she enjoys that cost under $10-15 unless I do maybe two inexpensive books or something. I plan on getting her a chocolate bunny and a little candy and I thought more toys would be better than treating Easter like Halloween this year. I'm also one of those mom's that would rather spend a few extra bucks on something I know she will like than going ubercheap and the stuff just takes up space in her toy bins. I'm so tired of the junk mentality -- or giving cheap stuff as space filler. Last year I got her a bat, mitt and ball. About $50.00, including the basket but we still play with it so that's cool.

Happy Easter!

I spent 10 so far, but it will probably end up being 15 (at most).
Recycled basket and grass from previous year.
Kites, Bubbles, a puzzle, books, socks, Mini LaLaLoopsy, chalk, a stuffed bunny, and a hula-hoop.
I still need to get her some Easter Candy.
=)

Like other holidays, it depends on the age. My son is 4 and I spent about 15 dollars on toys and candy. He is getting a playdoh set which was originally 18 dollars but I got for 7 with sales and coupons, a car he wanted, and some organic gummies. He doesn't like chocolate. Since kids get stuff from other relatives, I think this is plenty as this age. If you spend over 50 dollars on young children now, what do you think you will be spending when they are teens?

huh, not sure i really thought much about how much i spent, but i never never would have guessed over $50 for people.

recycled basket, grass and eggs. Maybe $10 on candy but bought through fundraisers, then one or two toys. So maybe $30 each.

This year they both need Cases for their DS-s that they got for xmas. unless tehy don't really need cases? then maybe books.

Probably about $30 on 3 kids this year, only because I finally threw out all the plastic eggs and bought new ones. I don't do a lot of candy, but I buy Easter story related bible books and such.

I go all out.... At least a hundred on my two girls put together. Now I have a little boy too, but his basket will be tiny. Our egg hunts have cash in them and the bunny leaves prints and Carrotts , lol

I do buy basketS that I end up using myself though, like house appropriate bins that I like.

I've been told that my Easter basket sounds more like Xmas elsewhere.... but the EB is bringing another train set, transformers, power rangers, bay blades, bakugan, video games and cash. Oh yeah, a little bit of chocolate as well ;)

IMO, put in your Easter basket what you'd like your kid(s) to have. There is no right or wrong answer. Basically what goes into our basket are things I buy during the year that I don't want to give him to play with right away, but can't resist purchasing LOL So I store it for the EB that way he doesn't get toys on a continuous basis, but 3 times per year: Xmas, B'day and Easter.

I try to keep it at $20-30 each. Depends sometimes with the older kids because it is so hard to find things they actually want for that low a budget. They each get a chocolate bunny and those reese's eggs and the rest of the candy is for the plastic eggs for hiding.

We have our same Easter Basket from our childhoods.
Yes the real ones.

So that was only purchased once.

I try to not spend more than $20 - $25 worth of stuff.. Some years it has been less.

Seems like plenty.

My Easter Basket is some candy, bubbles, and other dollar items. We reuse our baskets so I spend maybe $25-30 total on the kids. Sometimes they do need new stuff for the Spring/Summer like a bike but I just don't include that for Easter. I guess I just don't want them to expect big ticket items for Easter every year. I can't believe other posts of spending a couple hundred. Never heard of people treating Easter like Christmas. My Easter basket as a kid was always a large chocolate bunny and a bunch of candy.

My daughter is only 2, but I think it was probably about $15 - not including the candy that will go in the eggs. Bubbles, sidewalk chalk, coloring book, a wind up chick, and a cute little purse. She'll love it. :) Got a really cute (and collapsible!) basket with her name on it last year from Etsy.

I always end up spending between $50 - $100. But, its always stuff my son can use. Last year was a new bike , this year he starts t-ball, so the easter bunny will be bringing him a t-ball stand, balls, bat, and bases ($40 for all that), so by the time I add a little candy and a basket - it's about $50. However, this year we won't be home, so he will get an extra basket for easter morning with a few small things in in (about $20), since he will want to use the t-ball stuff right away and won't be able to where we will be, so he will be surprised when he comes home that the easter bunny left him something at home.

I do whatever to make it fun. My family wasn't really big on Easter, so I do my best to make if fun for him.

My 11 month old got some chocolate bunny crackers(Annie's organic) a small pack, and a little set of sesame street toys I think $5 bucks. She is using her older sister's basket this year(and the next few). My 3 year old will have a chocolate bunny, a small Easter playdoh toys (3-4 dollars), some Easter chasticks($3) and two fancy Nancy books ($8). I had to buy her a basket this year($10) and she'll use that and pass it on to the little one. She had been wanting a rolling backpack (14.99 at target) but of course when I go to buy it they are out, so I'll hopefully find one this week. My oldest is 4 still using the same basket all his Easters a tonka truck one I think he is growing out of it :( so our last year to use it. He will get a chocolate bunny in his basket and a razor scooter that he has been wanting ($29.99). I also bought a few bags of candy and some eggs.

My son is only 3, but I don't get toys and things for his basket. (My parents and in-laws get him plenty, we don't want anymore toys then that!!) I get my son a basket from a local bakery. They bake bunny bread in the shape of rabbits. They put a big bread rabbit, a carrot full of granola and some eggs with baked goods in them. It comes with the basket and grass. That is $20. That is the most I will spend. When he is to the age he doesn't like that anymore, I will still keep it at $20.

I jut recently asked my Facebook friends the same question...most said around $20_$40. I feel like a fool, we've always spent away too much. I have three kids and have probably spent $250. They each have a movie, a few toys, clothes, candy and some outdoor play stuff. We will definitely cut back next year, especially considering my oldest made a list for the Easter bunny!!

Well this year I think it will be around $40 but maybe a little less. We are getting the boys each a video game that they want and then a little candy.

We always do practical fun stuff so I never pay much attention. With two girls it's easy to give them stuff I'd have to buy anyway and they are happy. We do bathing suits, shorts, flip flops or beach towels depending on what they need and then fill in with candy, hair tyes, clips, books, lip gloss and nail polish. I usually get a little stuffed animal for my youngest.
I figure I spend about $15 on "junk or candy" and the rest on useful Spring stuff.

I went a leetle overboard this year. I told DH that I didn't get to do this for the sks (they are never here for Easter) and DD is my only so....yeah.

I bought DD a little basket for $4 because she likes to play with them and it was on sale, but it's stuffed to the gills. DH thinks it's too much.

At Michael's they had stuff on sale 40% off, so that's where I got the basket, a dozen eggs, the activity books ($1 each), a sun hat and gardening gloves and some stuff for SD. I also got her a little bunny at Rite Aid, and some candy. I got her a necklace from a friend's store, which was the pricest thing at $10. Then I found some fancy hair bows and a My Little Pony that I'd saved since after Christmas sale shopping. So that's about $30, not incl. the gifts and candy for SD or candy for DH... It adds up quickly and nothing except the necklace was more than $4.

My grandmother is always tsk tsking us about Easter and these days I only bring the Starburst Jellybeans to Easter dinner (which I eat to keep me awake since I was up at 6 for the sunrise service).

I don't do grass. I tell DD the EB knows we have stupid cats.

We use the same basket, eggs, grass from previous year.

We ALWAYS get daughter a Godiva bunny. Throw in robin eggs, stuff eggs with dollar bills, etc. This year we are giving her a gift card for shopping for about $200. These work great for us because she does her own shopping and she keeps a couple of her gift cards handy.

She just finished her birthday 12/27 and Christmas gift cards $250 each from us this past weekend. She still has about $300 in cards left from relatives for birthday and Christmas. I'll add she is 17 now.

When she was younger it was books, candy, etc, plus we have special Easter candy we make every year for friends and neighbors.

I *try* to keep it around $25 for the basket and then whatever amount it takes for candy and small toys for the eggs the bunny hides.
The kids also get a new easter outfit for church and I find I spend the most on Easter dinner!
