Hi,

We're moving to a larger home next month and I'm not sure what I should do about increasing our housekeeper's pay. I've asked her to give me a price b/c I obviously need to pay her more but she just keeps saying to pay her what I think is fair. Currently I pay her 75/week to clean our 3bed/1 bath up and 1bed/rec/bath down. Our new home is 4 beds, 41/2 baths with a full finished basement and well over twice the square footage. Any thoughts/feedback on what to do are much appriciated.

I would think that if your new house is twice the size, you would want to double her salary or just about 125/150. If that is too much, them maybe have her come every other week instead?

I own my own cleaning business. I would pay $150.00 & $50.00 added to that for the move in clean. If you want the price to stay around $100.00 each visit then just exclude certain rooms each week & have them done the following week. Im sure your CL will get the rotation down & It won't be so much work for her nor too costly for you. BE GOOD TO YOUR CL.

N.,
We handled this situation through algebra, basically. Make a note of how long it takes your CL to clean your current house and how much you pay her for this. When she cleans your new house pay her the same rate based on how long it takes her to clean your new, bigger home. Also, we paid more when we moved in, because the house was much dirtier than it is now on a weekly basis. This works for us, because our cleaning ladies work just as hard on smaller homes as they do on a larger homes. It sounds like your CL does, too.
Good luck.
Amy
