How Much Battery Life Does Your Kids iPod Get Playing Games?

We got our 5 1/2 year old son a 16gb iPod Touch for Christmas (5th generation) so he could play games. He loves playing Sonic the Hedgehog and Sega racing. I was expecting that he would get several hours of gameplay on it but the battery seems to drain pretty quick. I own several Apple products and I am really good with computer stuff. In order to extend the battery I have the brightness at 50% and turned off wi-fi as well as auto update for apps and location services and any notifications (all he is going to use the iPod for is to play games, look at pictures and watch a movie on it. We get about 3-4 hours of solid gameplay before the low battery warning comes on. I would have expected at least 6 hours, if not more. I am aware that different functions and apps take up more power but I also can't help but wonder if either the hardware or battery is faulty. We bought it from J&R Music through Amazon and I have been watching this whole thing closely and trying to do as much as I can before I can come to a conclusion as to whether or not this product is faulty or that is just the way the battery works. How long does your iPod or iPhone last (not asking about the iPad (that I know has a better battery life).

That sounds completely normal.

My question is why is he on so long? He should be outside playing or at least playing with other kids. Just saying. I think that is about the right amount of time for the battery to last.

I honestly do not know. I have never sat and used any of them continuously like that. My kids, either, to my knowledge.

I do know, though, that some games use more than others... Not sure why, but according to my kids they do.

I've never let them play them for that long of a stretch. They keep them in the charger when not playing so the batteries have never run down.
