My question is would you give up your night to "blanket" your town with the posters and flyers? My son and some of his friends want to participate I am thinking if they want to get involved in something global that I should also get involved what do you think?
I intend to do this with my son I realize this is not new, but I do think it is commendable that they want to be involved. To answer the post about our own children my son is involved in many charities through his school to raise money for the less fortunate kids here so he is not just worried about kids far away.
I watched this video earlier today. I think it is great your son wants to give up the night and put up the posters to raise awareness. I never heard of Kony until watching this video. Go with him and you will always have that memory of you two working together to bring about some good in the world. Sounds like you raised a good boy, mama.
This is very sad but I would like to put out there that there are millions of American children who live in utter poverty. Some in the back hills of Tennessee don't go to school either. And American children are kidnapped every day and sold into slavery. I think we need to use our resources to help our own children before we worry about the children of another nation. I know that kids are kids no matter where they live, but our priority needs to be OUR children.
This has been going for years. (26 to be exact.) In addition, we already have soldiers over there looking for this guy.
Secondly, look into the non-profit Invisible Children. They give around 35% of their profits to the cause they're supporting. I'm trying to figure out how they can be against the child soldiers for Kony, but be ok with these child soldiers...when the children are all "recruited" the same way.
Don't get me wrong, I think Kony is a heinous man and deserves what he gets. But the ICC has been going after Kony for many years, and the US has had soldiers trying to find him for many years. This isn't a new thing. It's not like it just showed up...but if you know how to market something, it'll seem like it's new and BAM! It'll become an internet sensation.
Yeah, this is all over the internet...great that so many people are getting involved or trying to talk about it at least...unfortunately this is NOT new and Oprah had a show about this 2 YEARS AGO!
I would absolutely encourage my kids to get involved, if they so chose...
....HOWEVER...putting up posters is fine AS LONG as they follow up and take them down too! I am a stickler for litter and hate excess waste of paper!

Hi! I would definitely help my son. I would do anything to help my teen son (I am assuming this is your 14 yr old) learn the lessons this will teach him but just to have the chance to connect with my teen on this level is awesome. It is just a night and it will help him on the path to being a good man and let him and his friends see what being a good woman is all about.
