It takes just about 3 months. My baby girl is just about 4 months and I think I received the SS# about 2 weeks ago. You should get it soon!
Does anyone know how long it took them to get their new baby's social security number? My son just turned 3 months last weekend and we're still waiting. We filled out the forms before we left the hospital. I called the office today and he's still no in the system...
I delivered my son at Illinois Masonic Hospital, in the city, this past June and filled out the paperwork at the hospital. We just got his SS card in the mail last week, so just after he turned 3 months. Thanks everyone.

It takes about 12-14 weeks after their birth goes on file, so you should be recieving it any day now.
Hi there - we filled out the paperwork at the hospital as well - I think my son was 8 or 9 weeks old before we got anything.
My daughter, who is now 6 months, was born at Delnor Hospital in Geneva. They had us complete all the paperwork while I was in the hospital too. I finally received her card when she was 17 weeks old. With my son, who is 4 now, we got his card when he was about 10 weeks old. He was born at a different hospital, so I'm not sure if it depends on when or how often the hospitals update the info. I would suggest calling about once a week or so until you receive it.
Good luck & congrats on the new baby boy!!

I received my daughter's SSN card the week she turned 13 weeks.
Haha my son just turned 3 months today and I am wondering the same question! :)
Congrats on your new baby boy. :)
congrats J.
It usually takes about 3 1/2 months, so you should be receiving it anytime now

My daughter was born in April and we got her card in June. 2 years ago when my son was born, we filled out all the papers at the hospital but never got a card. He was born in March. I ended up sitting at the ss office for 2.5 hours with a 10 month old. Don't do what I did! If it doesn't come by 6 mos -- go right away so you aren't stuck in the crowd at ss in tax season.
They told us 12 weeks when our daughter was born. I think that it took about 10 for us. That was last fall.
It should only take 6 weeks. With my last son we had to do everything over again. We even had to get his birth certificate. The hospital said they turned in all the information but it was never filed with the health dept or Social Security. So I would resubmit for it. After I re did the paper work we had his SSN in less than 2 weeks.
For us, it took about 3 1/2 months, so I would wait a few more weeks. (We actually just got it in the mail the other day and my son is 3 1/2 months old)

Hi J.,
It took a while for my daughter to get hers. She was born at Northwestern. I think she was about 4 mos. I filled my paperwork and gave it to an administrator at the hospital while we were there. Did you do something like this? If you did, I'd call the hospital and get that persons contact information and call them.
My son also just turned 3 months and I wondering the same question because we are moving the end of next month... Ohh yeah Congrats, on your baby...
It depends most on what state your child was born in. Right now, for babies born since 5/31, Illinois is running at an average of 13 weeks. (Along with NV, we have the LONGEST wait.)
When my daughter was born last year, the average was 16 weeks. I called the SSA at 15 weeks, and they said if I didn't get it by 4 weeks past the average time I should consider going in to reapply in person. Mine came at just about 17 weeks.
See http://tinyurl.com/2gegew for the SSA's current list of wait times.
COngrats on your new baby boy first of all. It takes twelve weeks usually, so I would call them if you do not receive it in the next week or so, or go to their wevbsite, that may be quicker.
Well we were informed to wait until out daughter was 6 months old before we requested her ss card. They may be waiting until your child is 6 months old. After sending in her information it only took a short time before we recieved it.
Good luck!
It took us about 3-4 months. If you haven't received them by week 15, I would definitely call.
I'm not sure where your son was born. I think the hosptial sometimes makes a difference. My son was born June 6th at Christ and I just received his card Monday. You can call the hospital where he was born and they usually can tell you a time frame. I bet you get it any day now.
By the way, my first week back to work was last week and it wasn't that bad. I have pictures of my 2 year old and my new son all over my office, my wallet, my computer and I do miss him but I also feel pretty darn good to have a reason to shower and use my career brain instead of my Mommy brain. I call daycare often to check in and I value our mornings and evenings together. Don't worry, it may be a little difficult at first but you AND your son will be just fine!
It took us 4 months to the date. If it takes you longer, I'd keep making the phone calls.
My son was born June 17 at Provena Mercy in Aurora and we are still waiting for his card............
Hi J.,
My son was born in Crown Point, IN, and we got his card in about 3 or 4 weeks! I would call.... :)
Congrats!!

Ours only took about 2-3 weeks, but my kids were born in New York. Maybe check back in with the hospital? I don't think it should take that long- our au pair just got her taxpayer id (similar process) and that only took about 2 weeks. You may have to do the stuff over again.
I took 3-1/2 months for us.
Seems like a long time. We filled out the paperwork at the hospital & received our daughter's SS card in about 4-6weeks. Hmmm. try contacting SS dept & see what the hold up is. It's possible maybe it never got processed..
I think we received our son's when he was about 4 months old. Just wait a few more weeks.
