Hi~
Some may just lose their potency, but some may actually get rancid. Better to toss them and start fresh!

I received a spice rack 3 years ago as a shower gift. I use some of the spices regularly, but others I do not or some I will use on rare occasions if a recipe calls for it. I'm considering just throwing out the spices that I rarely use or have never used (even though most are not even open). The spices I buy separately at the store usually give a use by date which is great.

I had the same question. This link helped me out. :)
I was just in the same situation. I have had my spice rack for over four years now and got sick of seeing all these spices that I never use. So I dumped the ones I don't use and refilled the bottles with spices I do use. I just took a magic marker and wrote on the outside what it was. I hope this gives you another idea to use. Have a great weekend.
Hi MC
I would throw them out. We even store our paprika in the Ice Box, to keep it fresh. It is better to be safe than sorry.

There's a chart that tells you how long to keep spices, blends, herbs and extracts.
