Have him tested for Strep throat...it is going around BAD! Scarlet fever is a from of Strep and that TOO is going around.
Hope he feels better soon!
My 3 year old started running a low grade fever on Saturday night (100-101). He has had congestion and a runny nose on and off for about 8 days prior to that. On Monday he also started having trouble urinating, having to go every 5 minutes with nothing coming out. Well the fever continued so I took him into the dr. on Tuesday to make sure a.) there was no UTI and b.) ears/throat were okay and no sinus infection had set in. UTI results came back negative, throat was slightly "red" and he was only able to see slivers of his ears (a lot of ear wax) but said they looked ok. The dr. thought it was viral and said to wait it out. He did throw up once Tuesday night. So we are waiting for whatever this is to pass. But how long does a fever with a virus last? He has had viruses before, but fever only last 2-3 days with those. So I am just curious. Thanks!

Did they send his urine to the lab for a culture? Even when mine comes back pos right away my doc always send it out. Our ped likes to see kids after 3 days of a fever. It's also possible that he has. Had two different viruses back yo back.
My concern would be, that he is not peeing very much and having trouble urinating.
Is he taking in liquids? Keeping hydrated?
A fever can be dehydrating.
Did they do a Strep test?
There are so many kinds of Viruses.
Not all being the same.
Again, I would be concerned about his urinating and nothing coming out.
Do the anti viral things- NO sugar, fruits and veggies, as he will, juice them so he may benefit.
best, k
My son had a virus last year and the fever lasted for 5 days. He had no other symptoms and it came down everytime with Tylenol and Motrin. Hang in there, make sure you arent medicating unless his fever is over 100.4.
Viruses can last 3-10 days.
If he's not better by tomorrow or things get worse, make a call to the dr. They might want to check on him again.
Be sure he's getting lots of fluids however necessary!!
"Usually" 3-5 days. But they can go for the full length (avg 10 days... think H1N1).
Normally only a few days. Anything is possible though. His body may just be having a harder time fighting it for whatever reason.
I hope he is feeling better soon.
