How Long Did Your Baby Take a Bottle?

Hey fellow moms! My little man is 14 months and doing really great on the eating front. I nursed him for 12 months and then had him fully weaned around 13 months. I tried putting milk in a sippy cup but he is not having that yet. He does great taking his juice etc. out of a cup but he just doesn't drink his milk that way. So I give him a bottle morning, afternoon, and evening. So I was thinking to try again at around 16 months especially considering that he was just fully weaned a month ago. Any feedback on how long your little ones took a bottle and how you were able to transition to a cup would be great. I am not worried or stressed about this at all, just would like some constructive feedback. Thanks! :)

What can I do next?

Hi J.. I cut both mine off at 1 year. I think the difference may be that I started the sippy cup during snack times at 9 months. I always gave it to him weather or not he drank alot out of it. Then at 1 year (he turned a year 3 weeks ago)I just took away all bottles except the one before bedtime. Just a note....neither of my kids seemed to drink as much from the sippy cups...but that is ok. After a few days, I took away the bottle before bedtime. I didn't have any probs w/either of my kids. Just start giving the sippy more and more. But I have to say, I think I got really lucky w/my kids and my Dr. is fantastic. She was the one who told me when to start introducing the cup and she was adament about getting rid of bottles at one year. Good Luck!

Hi J.! I'm also a 1st time mom to a 14 month old boy... and I'm 32 also! :) We've had "issues" getting rid of the bottle. We're down to 1 milk bottle at night before bathtime. I think it's great that you aren't stressed about it because for us, it's just been a slow process. One step at a time. We replaced his daytime milk bottles with water (in the bottle) & eventually stopped giving him the water bottles. There were a couple of days where he really threw a fit over it, but I just tried again the next day. Since your son was just weaned, it may take a little longer & that's ok.
Best wishes to you & your little boy!
Sincerely,
A.

Try different cups or the ones with a straw. Our good friends daughter would only drink from a straw. It is like a bottle or pacifier, try different ones until you find the one your child likes. Good luck.

Congrats on the weaning! I wouldn't stress over the fact that he still using the bottle. He is still a little guy even though he seems to be growing up so fast! With my first three (fourth is 11 mos) they used the bottle until around 16 -18 mos. I found that they would see the sippy cups and want to drink out of that, especially if you have them around other children who use them (church, daycare, friends...) also they love to "try" others sippies at that age! (I watch that age at church and I've seen quite a few "sippy cup thieves"!) Just keep doing what your doing and he'll come around. :o)

God Bless,

A.

my son took a middle of the night bottle until he was 18 mths. old.
When I took him off daily bottles, I used a sippy cup, then later on used the playtex w/a straw.
Just a hint...
The best time to try the sippy cup(or whetever you are replacing the bottle with) is when they first wake up and ae REALLY thirsty, the use it. Hopefully you little guy will get the hang of it. good luck
