How Long Can This Go On? LOL!

I am miserable. I hit 39 weeks today. I've had one 34, one 35 and one 36 weeker (each time I baked longer) so this is as far as I've ever made it. At my weekly checkups I have been averaging 1 to 1.5 cm dilation. I have my next appt Wed, but last week I was a strong 5, almost 6, and 100% effaced! So this week I am anticipating a 6 to 7 cm dilation. I have had minor cramps on and off for WEEKS and obviously they are doing their job, but how much longer can baby hold out on me?!? I've already had an u/s to make sure baby isn't getting to big (as my 34 weeker was 6 lbs) and she was so low that they almost had to do a trans vag just to get her head measurments because the wand just couldn't get a low enough angle. BTW, she was 8 lbs 6 oz +/- 1lb 4 oz last week so I can only imagine what she'll be this week!

I'm at the point where I'm really worried that when contractions finally become steady and/or my water breaks I won't have time to get to the hospital 30 minutes away because I know once my water breaks, it's two pushes (okay, maybe 4) and they're out.

Sex, walking, spicey food....nothing is working on this child!

Advice? Encouragement? Sympathy? Empathy? Tell me this is almost over!!! LOLOL!!!

What can I do next?

I'd be kinda scared being 30 mins from the hospital with this one, it's gonna be a white knuckle ride :)

My daughter was a l0 month baby - I knew exactly when I got pregnant because I had a hard time conceiving and I understand how you feel because I had to wait so long for her to be born. But she was a beautiful 8 lb baby and worth waiting for - hang in there and you're at the finish line. Best of luck to you.

I was so awfully uncomfortable with my last one, and I wasn't late...two weeks early, and a week before my scheduled c-section, but I was SO MISERABLE. I just KNEW, the day it was going to happen, that it would happen, because I thought "If I feel this way any longer, I'm going to go insane!" I specifically told my husband not to drink because I KNEW she would come that day.

So, I'm laying in bed...can't sleep, of course...around midnight, and my water just broke. I got up and went out to the kitchen, where I find my husband with a hot dog (with everything...onions, relish, etc) in one hand and a beer in the other.

He sees me standing there with water (red tinged) running down my legs and the look on his face...I'll never forget it!!! He honestly said "You're not serious." I'm thinking...yes...this is all just an elaborate joke.

Anyhow, I hope that was good for a laugh. I went into labor immediately and by the time I made it to the hospital an hour later (we had to wait for grandpa to arrive to watch our other child) I was literally ready to push her out and my scheduled section turned into an emergency section.

Also good for a laugh (now, not then)...I went through full labor with both my pregnancies before having a section to remove them because of medical necessity. I've had the best of both worlds! :) (Hah. Ugh. Yup.)

So anyhow, I'll quit rambling. How exciting for you...congratulations!!! I'd take your place in a moment...I love having babies!!! :) I hope you have a wonderful time and I hope your hospital has excellent food!

How are you getting to the Hospital?

Since this one may come quick, don't wait until the contractions gets more steady or your water breaks. And because your hospital is 30 minutes away.
Just all the Doc and head to the Hospital.

What has your Doc said? You sound like a ripe tomato all ready to go!

I say that baby either comes tonight, or at your Wed. appt. the dr. will send you over to L&D.
- My advice is
- get a hotel room as close to the hospital as possible. It would only be for a night or two, right?
- hang out in the hospital L&D lobby every day.
- that if your baby hasn't come by Wed. to ask to be admitted.

Congrats!

- DON'T do the long walking. I tried that. I walked our outlet mall for 4 hours. My feet hurt SO bad! My dr. looked at me and said, 'don't you think if that worked that we'd tell EVERYONE to do that?'

I second the idea of getting a hotel room.

We were actually pulled over on the way to the hospital with my first. - our hospital was about 30 min away. (Speeding, of course.) The officer did the whole, walk over, shine a flashlight in the car, saw me in the middle of a contraction thing.... yeah. Like in a sit-com.

The method that worked with both of my kids - make plans. Dinner reservations, all of the grandparents otherwise occupied, husband in the middle of a big project at work - that was my first. With my second, I started baking when contractions started. Water broke as soon as I put the banana bread in the oven, and of course I HAD to let it finish baking, since my oldest was helping me bake it, and she was only three and LOVES banana bread.... yup, works every time. Make other plans.

Hang in there, mama! And, congrats!

This made me smile! You are in such a special time of your life (almost there!) and you probably will never forget these emotions you are having this week. You have never been this pregnant and probably never will be again (never know~)

Good luck!

Sounds like you are on 24/7 hour call. Hang in there, it is almost over!! :) Just make sure you are prepared with everything in the car, make sure everyone is on 24/7 hour call for the other children. You can't make him or her come out any quicker. Enjoy the other children as much as you can, because thier world is turning a little upside down too, in a different way.

CONGRATS!!

If you are 5 to 6 I would say any day now. What I would do it I was you and knew the baby would come fast if get a room close to the hospital so that you don't have the 30 drive. I know my former coworker's daughter delivered in the car in the good will parking lot because the drive was too far. If you can't do that which I understand if you can't the first signs of labor you need to take off!!!

Good Luck and God Bless!

Ha! No sympathy here! Just imagine 3 more weeks... Or 10-12lb babies at 40 weeks, and that blanch and nausea is what's normal in our neck of the woods :D

Congrats, though!

Now go mow the lawn ;)

42 weeks. that's how long it can go on! With all 3, my drs wanted to let me go to 42 weeks and then induced. That's why all my kids were between 9 and 10 lbs. They were all big, all my labors went fast, not enough time for epidural, but in all cases, it was the exact righ time. Everything was perfect. Thier birthday is the exact right day it was supposed to be. I feel for ya! It is almost over. You can make it. The only thing that threw me into labor was getting a vaginal exam. I lied and said I had spotting and cramping. They did a vaginal exam and I went into labor on the table!

I don't know - I think maybe I'd camp out in front of the hospital!

I don't know what a short labor or already being dilated is like, myself. I labored for 23 hours each time. My mom gave birth 45 minutes after going into labor with me, 5 minutes after she got to the hospital. I'm lucky I wasn't born in the car!

I'd go to the hospital the moment something changes - don't wait for the water to break. Is there shopping nearby the hospital? Maybe go shopping every day with your suitcase in the car?

I hope that you don't have many more days of this!!

My mom went FOUR weeks over with me! It is amazing to me that anyone would allow that to happen EVER, even if it was 31 years ago.
One of my mom's friends broke her water (with both pregnancies) by jumping on the bed. I'm thinking about trying that one in a few weeks myself...
Aren't trigger points that you can do accupressure to get the ball rolling? I thought I read that somewhere.
Good luck! I'm jealous- I still have 6.5 wks to go.

Have you just called the doc and asked to be induced? They kind of like doing that nowadays so they can plan their time better. My daughter has been induced for all 7 of her kids. They were delivered by different docs, some even indifferent towns. A couple of pushes and they're here too. That was why the docs went with the inducing on their own accord. They didn't want her to wake up in the middle of the night with a baby coming out.
