How Does a Wii Work? Can I Stream Internet Videos Through It?

Hi Moms! I'm considering purchasing a Wii. The advertising says it can access the internet. Are you able to access any website, or only sites that sell more equipment for your Wii? I cancelled my cable and we watch Hulu.com or Fancast.com on the computer, but I would like a way to access these sites and watch TV on my TV screen. Any ideas would be helpful.

What can I do next?

A PS3 is your best bet. You can access any websites on the Wii, but the plugins aren't available to watch the videos.

C.,
We are also getting rid of cable and going to use the internet. My husband has done extensive research on this issue and the Wii is not an option. A Playstation or Xbox is your best bet. They both access the internet and can do different things. My husband prefered the Playstation over the Xbox. (We do love our Wii to play games as a family. It is fun to be active and playing games at the same time but just not so great for the tv viewing off the internet.)Good luck with your search. :)

We have a Wii, but don't have it hooked up to the internet. It seems from what I see of the menus that it is more like a chat or email high scores option. But like I said, we don't have it hooked up to the internet, so there may be other options with it.

I have my Wii hooked up to the internet. It's free and easy but there is no ability to play anything "Flash". I use this connection when I'm nursing my son to read Mamasource and more text intensive sites.
