How Do YOU like to Celebrate Your Birthday?

Good Morning, Moms! it's my last birthday being "forty-something"! ....don't really have any plans for the day...just gonna hang with my kids, family dinner tonight (probably take-out, cuz I don't feel like cooking!). This is perfectly fine with me. Just wondering how all of you like to spend your "special day" - is it an extravaganza (LOL) or something more low-key? What would your ideal birthday be like?
Have a great day, ladies! :)

What can I do next?

Well my birthday was on tuesday. I share the day with several of my friends and so we had a little get together. Then last night was my present from my son's dad. He got of work early, took O for the night while I went to my friends bachlorette party. Oh those are my FAVORITE kind of parties!!! Before I had my son and all of my friends got married and moved away, we would have these huge parties where we would go all out. I miss them, but I'm ok. I like my small and only with the important people around me :D

Take out with my husband and son and cupcakes!

On the weekend before or after, DH and I go out for a nice dinner. Nothing extravagant, but always a place with no kids menu!

My ideal birthday would be:
1. sleep in
2. have one of my husbands delicious homemade omelets for breakfast
3. drive to the Children's Museum in Richmond and watch the kids play until lunchtime
4. have lunch at Bottoms Up pizza
5. drive home, take a nap
6. have in-laws pick up kids for an overnight
7. go out to dinner with amazing husband--maybe on the water
8. x-rated;)
9. read until the wee hours.

I love to cook, but I guess I don't want to cook on my birthday! I like low-key celebrations, not big parties.

I like to spend some time doing something fun with my daughter. I like being taken out to dinner. That's about it.

For my 50th, though, we planned way ahead and my daughter (9) and I went to Mexico for four days! We had a fun time.

Happy B-day M. V! Mine is Saturday.
Traditionally, I use my birthday as an excuse not to do anything I don't feel like doing.... so basically, yes, I have/had the household cater to my whims for that day. Also since it's so close to the 4th I've usually taken that whole week off from work and we would go camping or on an out of town excursion. Now that I'm an apartment manager I'm not allowed off the property during this time due to rents being due, and that my dears is a real BUMMER for me.
This year I'm excited because my oldest son is coming for a visit from Hawaii and bringing his new g/f for me to meet (he claims she's the ONE). They are going to do some camping while they are here visiting so I'm hoping to squeeze some time in this coming week out in the wilds.
I got my nails done yesterday and getting a hair cut tomorrow... those are my gifts to myself. Hubby doesnt usually get me anything, he'll just cook and cater like a good boy (it's also our anniversary, I married him on my birthday, that was his GIFT to me one year). My mom will probably take me shopping for a new outfit or for something I might want that I wouldnt normally buy for myself.... like expensive wrinkle cream or a set of new high thread count sheets.

Some years have been more over the top than others throughout the years.

WE generally hang out, knock about, find some fun to get into and I don't cook! Maybe golf with the fam. Dinner out & cake & ice cream.
I wouldn't consider it an "extravaganza" but it's perfect for me!

Honestly, there's not a thing I want or need! Except being with my family.

Hi M....
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
This is a fun question. I hope you get some juicy answers.
My two cents is this. On the major ones (30, 40, etc.) I like to do something special. Something I've never done before. So for 30, I flew a plane, for 40 I took a hot air balloon ride, 50 I took my motorcycle out after several months of not riding, at 60 I was going to treat myself to my first colonoscopy, but didn't have the money. Now, at 65, my special birthday treat is my supplemental Medicare insurance. And my colonoscopy! ;) Then I think I'll go ziplining in Costa Rica...but not right now.
The point is, mark the special occasions. You will remember them. And have fun!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Get spoiled!! ;)

Usually, I don't do anything for myself, unless someone else plans something. My birthday is in January and it's always miserably cold, so it's not like I can 'do what I want' outside on the river!

I'll tell you what I DON'T do on my birthday... cook or clean!! ;)

Happy Birthday.

I don't think about it. It is just another day to me and I try to keep it quiet.

Hubby and daughter usually get a cake and flowers but I just don't like to think about it.

I am pretty low-key. I appreciate the 'happy birthdays' but to actually celebrate - I just like to have an easy day with the kids and either a favorite meal or go out to dinner.....Since I'm the cook in the house it's typicall the latter option!!!!!!

Happy Birthday to you!

Usually it's a dinner I like cooked by my husband. The kids enjoy giving me dounuts or something like that for breakfast too. Maybe some small gifts like bath bubbles and such.

Now what would I like - as in ideal? Going OUT for a grown ups night out like to a casino, dinner party, pizza and cards. Anything fun with a few friends WITHOUT kids.

I'm a SAHM so I rarely get time away from my kids. It seems I am always in "mom mode". Even when my husband and I try to watch a movie, someone seems to wake up or I'm so exhausted by the time we start it, it's hard to really enjoy time alone with him.

Happy Birthday M., enjoy being pre-50 :) I'm a few years behind you. I'll probably spend my bday in a couple of weeks seeing the midnight showing of Harry Potter (per the request of my 16 year old). Tomorrow is my hubby's bday, he is turning pre-50 too. We are spending the day at the beach. Honestly, I'd be happy spending the day doing something outdoorsy like the beach, a fair or camping with my family for my bday - although a Broadway show and a luxurious dinner at the Melting Pot would please me too. Enjoy your day!

Maybe a little shopping alone and the rest of the day spending with my family, and like you, someone else dealing with dinner would be perfect.

I personally think when adults make a huge deal out of their birthday its borderline narcissistic.

We always have a family dinner with cake and presents. Usually on the weekend. Our ex's have our kids every other weekend so on the weekend we don't have the kids hubby will take me to my fave restaurant and movies. Usually nothing big. But this last bday he surprised me with family and friends waiting for us back at the house. It was sweet and I didn't have any idea!

HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!!
I'm not big on birthdays, my husband makes me a cake every year and we order out for pizza or Chinese and a movie. This is a tradition for all birthdays in our house. The kids love to tease my husband about how lopsided the cakes always come out and we compete for who gets the most lopsided cake each year. The only cake that comes out straight is his and that is because I MAKE IT LOL

My best birthday ever was last year when I turned 30, we went camping and rented a dune buggie for 2 hrs to ride on the dunes by Lake Michigan. It was awesome!
One year I let the kids skip school and go to the zoo with me.
Hubby does dishes.
