Yum, plain ole rye toast with a smear of butter is, in my opinion, a King's Feast!
(Best bread for fondue too)
:)
It's a silly question... but I grew up with the standard German sauerkraut and pastrami on rye bread sandwiches and I don't care for pastrami anymore.
So if you eat rye bread, how do you like to eat it?
P.S. I just bought a lovely loaf on sale...but am wondering will chicken or turkey do the trick?
Wow, it's a popular choice with some of you gals. And yes, I knew the phrasing would bring on a few hillarious answers...I'll try the 'with my mouth' tip!!!
And, you all have made me hungry...I'll be standing in the kitchen for awhile.
OK, best sandwich I've made in a long, long time....I toasted the bread with mayo and cheese and put on this organic salami with lettuce and tomato and thinly sliced onion...everyone loved it. My 13 yr son is hooked on rye bread now..who would of thunk?

mmmmm rye bread, oh any lunch meat on toasted rye with some swiss cheese mayo and mustard (good mustard) mmmm rye bread sounds sooooo good now damnit now I'm hungry. mmmmm rye bread. lol
Depends on the Rye. If it is dense European style rye bread I will eat it with nothing but salted butter. Sliced boiled egg is also really good.
Corned beef with coleslaw, 1000 island dressing, and sometimes cheese.........but you can do turkey also. :)
I eat it with my mouth, lol sorry I couldn't help myself.
I love rye bread that is all I eat. My daughter is the same. We make all our sandwiches on rye. It's also good toasted or used to make an egg in the nest (cutting a hole in the bread and frying an egg in the middle).
Now I really want to eat a Ruben without the Thousand Island dressing.
honestly one of my favorite things on rye besides polish dogs and sauerkraut is toasted rye with peanut butter. Yummy. Rye is so good for you. It's an acquired taste, but really adds a lot to many sandwiches.
Well, I don't but my husband votes for ham and mayo!
I usually just take a bite, chew and swallow. ;)
Seriously though, I don't like pastrami either, so I usually use hard salamis, or any "Italian" meat. And make a sandwich out of it with lettuce and tomato. I don't usually use cheese when using rye bread.
I've also used rye when making eggs sunny side up. There's something about the warm yolk and the rye that is just...yummy!
HTH!
I like it with ham and mayo.
I just eat it with butter. =)
we only buy rye bread for sandwiches. turkey, ham, corned beef, pastrami, regular beef. mostly swiss cheese. or we just have buttered bread also
ham sandwiches... my mom makes ham for easter and always puts out at least 1 loaf of rye... personally i like it toasted with butter the best
I eat everything on rye bread. Of course it is the most tastiest when it's fresh and it sounds as though you've found a loaf that will work for any purpose. I vote you do whatever you usually would and just enjoy. :D
I remember when I was young and my parents had dinner parties, my mom would make sandwiches out of this tiny rye bread. She would smear a cream cheese and chive mixture on it and usually ham or turkey thinly sliced.
I also grew up with German rye bread. I put butter and cheese or some sort of lunchmeat on it. It seems to taste good with tuna, too. My son even likes his with jam!
Patty melts! Fry up a burger patty, throw on some sauteed mushrooms, and top it with Swiss cheese. Yum! Now you have me craving a patty melt.
Rye bread is my favorite for everything (specifically, Dill Rye by Oroweat). I can't indulge often because of diabetes, but when I do, this is my go-to. Toast with butter (the scent is heavenly), or add a touch of jelly, or make any kind of sandwich out of it, or dip it in soup. I might like it so much because this was the toast my grandmother used to make for us in the mornings when I was little.
Our favorite sandwich is a "Reuben-like" imitator using sauerkraut, just about any kind of savory sausage, onion, avocado, Swiss cheese, and a touch of mayo.
Chicken or turkey both make fabulous sandwiches on rye. Enjoy!
I toast rye and make patty melts. I use it soft with robs for a rib sandwich. It is good with very savory foods.
oh no no no no......I can't do rye bread at all. lol sorry. ;)
I grew up in Germany on Rye bread and I never ever in my life put sauerkraut on it ....omg YUCK !!! Who does that?? Omg Nasty !! Slap some butter on it with some good cheese and call it a sandwich.
During football season, I buy the little cocktail loaves of rye bread and make salami and cheese sandwiches for my husband. But its not the lunch meat salami but those hard, long salamies with the white dusty moldy paper you peel off and slice. Just seems to be what he loves. We buy rye bread now and then for sandwiches. Usually marble rye is our favorite. Roast beef with mustard, pickle, tomato and lettuce is great. A patti melt sounds really good! Grilled onions with swiss cheese,, yum!
corned beef is good (think a reuben sandwich).
personally i like my rye with a creamy dill dip :)
