How Do You Clean Grout?

We recently moved into a house with granite tile kitchen countertops, bathroom tile countertops and bathroom tile floors. How do you clean grout effectively and what do you use? I try to use "greener" cleaners so I tried baking soda and a toothbrush today and it didn't seem to do much.

What do you use?

What can I do next?

Clorox works really well. I also have a steam machine and I steam it out as well.

BOTH ways require a lot of sweat equity and once you get it cleaned, seal it.

The Clorox Bleach pen. At our last house, we had white grout (uggggh) and that was literally the ONLY thing I found that worked. You draw the bleach goo onto the grout lines, and then let it sit a few minutes. Scrub with a long-handle scrub brush just to loosen whatever gunk is on there, then wipe it off. Beautiful and clean! I agree with Jim's advice to open the windows, and TF's suggestion to seal the grout afterwards. Then you can just wipe down the grout going forward.

We have light grout, so we use the Tide (or maybe it's Clorox?) bleach pen to clean it when it gets stained. Works great!

Hello. Careful with granite and bleach. I would ask someone at the local hardware store or call the professionals for them to come do a deep cleaning!

I use Shaklee - Scour off to be exact. It takes the place of Comet and Ajax - used to be called an oven cleaner, is a green cleaner - is gentle to the hands - smells GREAT - not toxic - and it works. People are amazed at what it can do.

Just remember when you use it water is the activating source so you don't have to use very much. (in other words use water when using it)

If you are interested go to http://nutritionproducts.myshaklee.com and search for "scour off".

I'm not sure. I live in FL and we get mold here super easy. I always wondered this too because nothing seems to work! I will try the tide bleach pen now though, and will be seeing what everyone else posts too!

Apply any time of cleaning agent with bleach. If using a powder, then add water until it's a paste. Let it sit overnight and clean up in the morning.
