Hi,
I don't know how to or where to begin looking for a babysitter. My husband and I moved to Audubon about a year ago and we don't know many people here. We have a little girl who is almost 3 years old and has not been cared for by anyone but us and her grandparents. My husband and I would like to find someone to watch her once in a while while we go to a movie or dinner, or just a cup of coffee at the local Starbucks. Of course, I am very hesitant. It's so hard to trust someone else with your children, but I think it's time. We need someone super reliable, safe, honest, etc...

Not only do I need advice on how to begin, where to begin, etc... but I wouldn't even know what to ask. Please help me! I would greatly appreciate the advice/suggestions.
Thanks!
-G.

There is a website that one of the mom's on here suggested to someone. It is called sittercity. It seems pretty helpful. I am as skeptical of sitters as you are. I only allow family or long time friends to watch my kids. This site though offered teachers and other professionals...it was not what i was thinking. Good luck with your search...

My husband and I were in the same boat. My family lives an hour away, and his mom is 1/2 hour away and works full time and is caring for her elderly parents, so we needed to find someone. My first question is, does your daughter go to daycare? If so, its a great place to look for a sitter. Often the teachers or helpers babysit for parents on the side. I have one from my daughter's (who is also 2 years old) school who she loves. I also, with hesitation, joined sittercity.com. I was very skeptical to find a sitter through the internet as I had never trusted my daughter with anyone other tham family members. However, many of the sitters on sittercity do get background checks for you to view. I found one we love. I set up an interview with her to meet my daughter and I and to watch how she interacted with my child. The second time I had her come to the house as more of a helper while my husband was home so he could observe. Well, my daughter cried when she left! We've used her a few times since then and my daughter loves her. I looked for sitters on there who had babysat for others and had good reviews given about them. If they didn't have reviews, I tended not to even consider contacting them. So, if you dont' mind spending a little $$ to join sittercity, you may find one or a few you like. Good luck!

Hi, G.,

A few of the moms whom I know often call the day care centers in the area and ask if they know if any of the girls babysit on their off hours...It's worked for them several times...I even remember when I worked in centers way back and would get families to babysit for because they called asking.

I also have a niece (19) who babysits - if you'd like her number, feel free to email me directly...She's going to Montco. for Early Childhood Education and babysits for several families I know.

Montco. might be another good idea to call - They have a lot of students who are in the child care/teaching field and want to earn some extra money ... good time to do homework while the children are sleeping...

And another teenager friend I know has told me that they had their names on some registry at the high schoool for babysitting...So try some schools in your area ...(Methacton)...

Just tossing some ideas out there from when I remember babysitting in my younger years...the beginning of my long time child care career... Good luck!! J.
