My daughter has been potty trained for about a year now, but still has an occassional night-time accident. When I wash everything, I can still smell the urine in her pajamas. There doesn't seem to be a problem with the sheets, and I don't remember it on her clothes when she had day-time accidents.
I have triple-washed her pjs, soaked them in bleach, washed in hot and cold water, used oxiclean and spray and wash. I've put the pjs back on her after the multiple washings, but I can still smell them when she's sitting near me.
What else can I use?
I use baking soda in the wash. (I buy a great big box in the laundry isle) Both of my girls have eczema so all my soaps and detergeants are hypoallergenic and fragrance free. I noticed that my daughters favorite blanket was holding its smell so I added baking soda to the wash and that did the trick. I also have heard that white vinegar works as well, but haven't tried that.
put vinegar into the wash with those clothes and that will take the smell out. I do it all of the time
Try washing them with a cup of white vinegar in the wash.
Have you tried a product that enzyme based? We use a product called Petzyme to get rid of the smell of cat urine, but I have used it occasionally on my daughter's accidents. It is child and pet safe. I simply throw a bit in the washer with the load of clothes. You can find it at Petsmart.

Try using baking soda (from the baking section in the store)and wash them several times using about a half a box each time (the smaller box). I have washed item that the dog layed on and that took that dog smell out of those items.
I usually try adding a couple Tablespoons of baking soda. When the agitator has started working for a few minutes, I turn the washing machine and let them soak about thirty minutes before turning it back on and letting the wash complete its cycles. It really helps a lot!
If you can still smell her urine that is also a big sign she needs more water and what about smell good snuggies for clothes or a cheapper brand those also work.
Ammonia always work for me in getting out stinking smells. It also keeps your clothes bright. Just put about 1/2 cup in the laundry water and then put your normal amount of laundry detergent. Wash clothes as usual.
You can buy ammonia for about $1.50-$2 for 56 ounce bottle. So I recommend trying this first before buying the more expensive cleaning agents.
Try the pet odor/stain remover you can get at PetSmart. Also the FEBreeze for pet odors may do the trick. V.
I can suggest using Odoban or urine be gone, which can be found in the pet or cleaning department. The other one I have used is my husbands scent eliminator used for hunting. All worked fine, I used for both where my son had accident on furniture and on his clothes for this very reason. I did leave them in the washer overnight. Then washed normally. Hope you can get it out.
I agree with the other mommies-Vinegar or Baking Soda should do the trick. The sun dried technique never heard of but doesn't sound like a bad idea but I love my gain dryer shhets too much :())
Have you tried hanging them out in the sun to dry? The sunshine offers natural antibacterial and deodorizing qualities. Might be worth a try.
My son has occasional accidents and right before the rinse cycle, I pour fabric softner. I also use dryer sheets in the dryer. Hope this works for you!
Wash with vinegar, and sunshine to dry. :)
Dont waste any more effort. throw them out. but if u must keep them try washing in baking soda or vingaer
Have you tried Borax Natural Laundry Booster? It works great on mildew smell/stain and the urine smell. I used it when my son was potty training. I have also used it when I have forgotten a load of laundry in the washing machine and it sours. It even takes that smell out. You can get it at Walmart and it is pretty cheap. Good Luck!
I agree with the baking soda and vinegar. Just be sure not to use them together, just one or the other.
Get borax and just follow the directions. That is exactly what it is made for and you don't have to wash more than once for it to work. The key is to do it as soon as you know and not let the urine set.
I'd soak it in one of those enzyme cleaners you get at the pet store like Nature's Miracle. Soak it & let it air dry. If it still smells, trash it.

Have you tried tea tree oil in your prewash or white vinegar? I cloth diaper and a lot of times the problem with smelly diapers is too much detergent which can lead to bacteria which hold onto odors. Tea tree oil or white vinegar soaks should help. You can also try hanging anything that has the ammonia odor outside and let it sun for 2 - 3 days. All of these "tricks" work for cloth diapers, so I figure they should work for PJ's. :) Hope this helps!
