When you put my daughter in a pull up she doesn't pee in it at night so we thought awesome we can put her in undies and she will do fine wrong she pees in her undies at bed time. She has been day time potty trained for a year now. I know she can go all night with out peeing in her pull up but why is it different in her underwear? We even send her to go potty before she goes to bed so that isn't the problem and we limit her fluid intake. I also told her to come wake mommy up if you want me to go with you but nope she hasn't. Please help

So What Happened?

So last night I put her in undies and when I went to bed which was only about 2 hours after her I took her into go potty and she didn't go which was probably b/c she was passed out, so I thought to be safe I would put a pull up on her. She woke up this morning telling me that she didn't want the pull up on and started to cry. I felt bad but she didn't pee :)so she got a sticker

I'm having the same problem with my 4 year old. The only thing that makes it a little easier is that I layer the bed with 3 layers of sheets with mats in between so I don't have to re-make the bed everyday! A friend of mine told me to wake the child up at 11:00 or whenever we actually go to bed. We have not done that yet. Let me know if it works for you if you try it. Good luck!

put her underpants on inside her pull up, see if that works, if she stays dry, then she will get used to the underpants against her skin and won't need the pull up eventually. but she is still very young. give her time.

The advise about putting the underwear inside the pull up is great advise. I did that with my kids. She will feel the wetness and be aware of it, but not wet the sheets! 3 1/2 is not too old to be wearing a pull up at night. A good night's sleep is more important.

Hi A.,

You can wake her when you go to bed and have her use the bathroom.

31/2 is young to be able to hold it all night. I am not sure what the connection is to the pull ups and not going, but maybe she goes a little in the pull up and it is absorbed, a little in under wear is not absorbed.

Good luck.

You say your daughter does not pee at night, isn' that great!
What more do you want? So she insists on wearing a pull-up, so what? For some reason this gives her a feeling of security and she doesn't want to get them wet, yeh! Sometimes it takes a while for little ones to let go of the "baby" stuff. When she is ready she will. Sooner or later, she'll decide to just start wearing undies at night to bed. Until that time, don't sweat it, this is NON-ISSUE. Don't make her feel insecure or bad about it, this is YOUR issue not hers, leave it alone.
Don't forget, there was a time when she was praised quite a bit for using her pull-ups, maybe she is holding onto that good feeling or maybe she just likes her pull-ups!
Best Wishes,
N.

its a different feeling in underwear. The idea of underwear in the pull up is a thought. Also remember it is a process. In the meantime, maybe layer her bed with sheets and plastic so you can just pull a layer off and remake the bed in the morning.

Many children sleep to soundly to wake when needed to go to the bathroom. Also, perhaps the pull-ups are warmer. Don't you have to go to the bathroom more frequently when you are cold?
Ask her. Maybe she knows and can explain.

Hi A., I had a 3, 4 year old son who used to pee his bed not every night but once or twice a week. Needless to say, having to change that bed in the middle of the night, just destroyed my good nights sleep.
I knew the poor little guy was just making mistakes and he sure didn't want to make me mad, so I started getting up every single night and going to him and say, C'mon Nick time to pee, and he would get out of bed and let me hold his hand to the bathroom, he would pee and go right back to bed. So did I! I had no trouble getting back to sleep and he didn't either. It got to be our habit for more than a year. Finally he didn't need me to do that anymore. It really wasn't so bad, and like I said, it was our habit. Hes going to be 20 this year, and when I look back on those midnight trips to the bathroom I smile to myself, its just one more thing we shared to keep things smooth in his childhood. Good luck to you! L. D

Hi,

We would get our daughter up before we went to bed at night (usually around 11 pm) and we would have her go then. She never remembered getting up and she would be dry in the morning. Just sit her on the potty in dim lighting and tell her to go. Then put her back to bed. My husband used to carry her and just lay her back down.

Hope this helps.

Let her sleep in the pull up. I put training pants on my children at night and that worked well. They woke up dry in the morning.
