How Do I Find Someone to Drive My Van from Vegas to Dallas?

Hi Moms,

I need someone to drive my van from Vegas to Dallas in July or August. Instead of hiring a company to have my van shipped (which would cost $1,500), I am trying to find someone trustworthy who would do it for much less. Does anyone have any idea how I would go about finding someone trustworthy to do this? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Wow, that is insanely expensive!! Try to get other quotes. We shipped my SIL's car from Chicago to San Francisco and it was less than $700.

Call your local car dealers and ask them for the numbers on their guys who transport their cars. I had a guy give me a $150 quote for going to Branson in a rental car then driving a car back for us.

He could do it in one day, it's only about 5 hours from here. All his expenses were at our cost so we counted in 2 meals and a nice tip, I think we just gave him $200.

He drove cars for the local dealership and a couple of other ones around too. They actually had about 4 guys that we talked to. Most of the others wanted to charge us something by the mile but this guy was just going to charge for the day.

I think if you call some friends and find out if anyone would be interested in doing this for you it might really help someone out too. It's less than 20 hours to drive there but I would check out the prices of getting someone there then allowing them one day and one night to get the car to Dallas.

So if you are just sending it one way then I would think about this. You are going to have to pay someone for at least 2 days of driving then for them to get back to Las Vegas. That can't be cheap, it will be a 4 day trip for them. I think since it is so far it might be cheaper to ship it. Otherwise I would just do the driving myself.

Are you kidding? Hire a service that is licensed, bonded and insured-or get a family member, or , do it yourself-I worry about you taking on this huge liability-don't mean to be critical-it just sounds like $1500, while quite steep-may be a small price to pay in the long run. It's around 1222 miles-really not a bad price when you look at it this way. All the best!

I agree with looking into other shipping companies. Something else to consider is approximately how much will driving it there cost in gas, hotels, possible extra maintenance work due to the long drive. When we moved from Connecticut to California we did this math out and ended up selling our car and buying a new one on the other end because it was an older car and getting it there was going to cost 2-3 times it's blue book value!

Look at Craigslist under the jobs heading. There is a transport category. You may find someone on there or post an ad yourself. Good luck.

I had my husband's Jeep shipped/transported from Florida to Southern California for $700 on an auto transport truck. You can find boards online where you can post a request and a trucker will call you to add a car to their car transport. If they are going anyway, they can take an extra car can make them an extra $700....AND NO EXTRA MILES OR ACCIDENT ISSUES ON THE WAY. I don't remember where I posted...but look around. You pay them when it arrives at your destination.

Hi! Many years ago we sent a car from NY to Seattle with a company that lines up people who want to drive with people who want their cars driven. The car went cross country with a lovely couple. It was all very professional and upfront. We went over the car thoroughly marking damage, they showed us their itinerary (which I think had to have been approved by the company), we actually gave them some suggestions of things they had to see on their way. They had insurance and had been background checked as well. we felt very comfortable when they left, my sister was quite happy when they arrived too. It was cheap, they pay the gas, oil, tolls etc. They had actually come the day before they took the car and I remember baking them cookies for the road. My sister said the car was cleaner than it had ever been with her. Okay, totally stalling... I'll bet you would like the name of the company... It was Driveaway something or something Driveaway. It was a long time ago, but I'll bet companies like that exist, just make sure you find a reputable one. Good luck!

My husband has driven cars for a local dealership. We live close to Vegas and he know the Dallas area since he grew up there. Let me know. Time frame is fine. Just email me and we'll figure out details
