How Do I Clean Highlighter Writing from Wall

I do the magic eraser personally. BUT, before you scrub down to the sheetrock...try off. I know that works w/ permanent marker. Then try the eraser!!

Don't know if this will work on highlighter but it worked on sharpies so it might be worth a try!!! Try GERM-X. It took red sharpie off of a desk and wall!!

Try using Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. It even gets permanent markers from the wall. It is amazing.

Haley's Hints says to try using toothpaste and rubbing with a soft cloth. He says on wallpaper, use rye bread or an artgum eraser. I've always found the magic eraser to do amazing things, but there's a few ieas for you!

Have you tried the magic clean eraser? It works on just about everything! You can get it at WalMart!

Since this will be the beginning of her artistic abilities, I would suggest getting poster paper and "framing" it with some type of border (you can get things at the dollar store). Tell her that this is her drawing area only. You can even put her name on it! If you find marks anywhere else, she will lose her crayons, markers, etc. Oh, and put up all of your markers.

Have you tried the Mr. Clean clean erasers? They work wonders on everything!!!! I even had car paint transferred to my vehicle and was able to use it for that...other than a little dent, you would never have known another vehicle left a mark.

Just be careful to scrub lightly, since most walls the paint will come off if done too abrasively. But otherwise, I love those things!

magic eraser. That sucker gets out almost anything. I'm not sure how it works so I would test it behind a picture or something first. Otherwise maybe some touch up paint?

K., I don't know if anything will clean it. I'm just writing to advise you if you decide to repaint. If you have to repaint, be sure to prime over the highlighter stains first, otherwise the highlighter will eventually bleed through your new paint. Hope you're able to clean it, and don't have to take such drastic action, but if you do, you only want to do it once. Good luck to you.

Have you tried the Mr Clean Magic Eraser. I use it for every thing and it works great and no chemicals! ( It even gets Sharpie off of paint)

The only thing I know to do about the walls is paint over it. First, with Kilz, then, the color. It may take 2 coats.
The 2 yr old is not bored. She is jealous. When you go to nurse the baby make sure the markers are gone. Then make a box of things she can play with while you are nursing and that can be right next to you and the baby. That way you can see her and she can interact with you. As soon as the nursing time is over make some alone time with her. Some time-out may be in order here also.

If the vinegar doesn't work, get a small can of old fashion
lighter fluid! They have a squirt nozzle with a small opening
and spray directly on the pink ink and wipe off with soft
absorbent cloth!
Oh and you might also try a rap on the hand and a stand in
the corner when she does it!

Hi K.,

You can try Mr. Clean magic erasers found in the cleaning section. If that doesn't work, use kilz (spelling?) that you can get at the hardware store. You'll have to paint over the latter choice.

My kids did the same thing when they were young! I remember my bedroom walls covered in RED marker! I tried everything to get it up. I finally bought Kilz to cover it and then had to repaint the bedroom. This is probably what you'll need to do. The benefit is nice freshly painted walls!

Enjoy the funny (not so funny at the time) things your little ones do as soon enough they will be all grown up and never home!

I'd try magic eraser...If not, you may have to paint over it.

i just got turned on to a new cleaning item peroxide for real on the wall you might want to try 1/2 water 1/2 peroxide if that does'nt work use it sraight but that is what i'm cleaning with now in bathroom and in kitchen i usally use 1/2 an1/2 in laundy i cap full in whites on stains blood ink ect rub it right on them its great

Mr. Clean Eraser....works wonders and gets up more than just marker on the wall! I use it for everything...scuffs on the floor/wall, cleaning the stove, removing dirt from grout...

If the Mr. Clean eraser didn't work, try the Dawn Power disolver spray..Try it on a small spot first, but I have found it will remove almost anything. Best wishes.

There is also a product called "Goo-b-Gone" and it worked on the sharpie "art" that my 3 year old did on our walls! Gotta love the toddlers!!

Melaleuca sells solumel and it will remove your marker. It is also nontoxic and will not harm you or the environment.

Sol-U-Mel will work for sure. My daughter colored all over my walls, comforter, sheets, etc. with a blue sharpie a few weeks ago and it took it all out!! Just a few days before that she'd found an orange highlighter and wrote on the ottoman, and it worked on that, too!! Plus, all of Melaleuca's products are non-toxic and completely safe to use around kids. I've heard horror stories about the Magic Eraser, so I wouldn't have one in my home.

Kilz II. Less odor. There may be something less toxic, but this worked for me.

WD-40 works wonders on crayon, marker, etc.

Baby wipes will usually get anything off.

You might try Avon's Skin So Soft Bath Oil...but not sure how effective it would be now that you have tried the other things first. I usually try this first for any type of paint, ink etc.. (since I am an Avon rep..) so I don't know if it would still work after the other items have been tried. Or you might try Goo Gone...that you can get from a hardware store.. usually find it in the paint isle.

i had said to use this stuff called krud kutter. after thinking about it, i think that would actully remove your paint as well. krud kutter works on a lot of other things. i just don't think i would use it on your wall. it does remove non washable markers off leather seats.. thanks

We have had good luck taking crayon and marker off walls using Mr. Clean magic eraser.

I have heard some people say if you have darker walls it can fade the paint so test a unnoticed corner first to make sure it doesn't have a bleaching effect.

I would try Mr. Clean Magic Eraser if you haven't already. It works wonders and has never let me down. Though I have not had to use it on highlighter. Give it a try, and if it doesn't work on it, there are a million other more things it will! Good luck!

Try hydrogen peroxide. No guarantees, but it does take blood out of white shirts!
If all else fails--repaint.

Try the "Magic Erasure". You can find it at wal-mart in the cleaning section. It's kind of like a sponge with some kind of magic cleaning suff in it that works wonders. I got crayon out of my grout with it.

magic eraser took permanent marker off 5 feet of painted wall 24 hours before our open house. It does remove/thin paint so be aware as you rub.

Have you tried the Magic Eraser? It's a microabrasive sponge. We used it once to get hair dye off of a bathroom door and walls and cabinets. Just keep it out of the kids' reach b/c it can really abraid their skin easily. I wear gloves when I use mine b/c it microabrades my skin, too. But it works very well!!

Try rubbing alcohol.

My 2yr old son took a black sharpie to our wall a couple of weeks ago. I tried everything. Magic Eraser, Vinager, Goo Gone, and Rubbing Alcohal. If you have a water based paint on your walls anything wet is going to start to thin the paint with it. We ended up using a primer and I am going to have to repaint. I have never heard of the peroxide or WD-40 Ideas that were given below, they might work though.

I would try a Mr. Clean Magic eraser. I also had a terrible two who got into everything whenever I nursed. I made a scrapbook called the Messy Bessy Book becase whe would do the CRAZIEST things. Sharpie Marker on my new furniture came off with the mr clean as did crayon from the grout on my tile kitchen floor and my walls. It also took stamp ink off my walls. I would give it a try! You can find them in the cleaning aisle of Walmart.

you can call the maker of the highlighter to see what they suggest on how to get it off the wall or use Kilz (latex) on the wall and repaint. Good luck!

My son colored on our carpet with highlighter and rubbing alcohol removed it right away. You may want to try that.

by a box of magic eraser...there are two per box and it is a godsend...no joke...it actually get's rid of marks (including permanent marker) where all others fail...

if you have a flat paint on your walls, magic eraser will get most of it off, but you'll probably have to paint over. if it's a gloss paint magic eraser should work. my kids did some "artwork" for me a few years back in red and black permanent magic markers..... magic erasers got it off... good luck!

Well I am not 100% sure this will work but I use baby wipes to get off ink so I am thinking that it should work for highlighters as well.....I use the baby wipes to clean off tennis shoes too! And the added benefit is that you most likely have these around the house anyways and know that it is not toxic to the kids.

I use Mr. Clean Magic Erasers to clean everything around my house. They are cheap and do a great job. My nephew colored all over my refrigerator with crayons and nothing would get it off, thats when i tried the Magic Erasers. They work wonders!!!!

Uhhhh...do you have any of the paint left over? If so, just touch it up. I had an event at my house this weekend and I found my OLD left over paint and cleaned up so many flaws on our off white walls, dirt and drawings included. I LOVED it. It was like magic for me. It was amazing how easy it was to clean it up. I could not imagine not having left over paint for emergencies. So when my children write on the walls, it's just a matter of yelling for a second and then breaking out the paint! HA!

If you don't have any touch up paint, no tips, besides, get some PAINT! Hope this helps ya...smile.

Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Just wet it, and scrub. Job done.

Rubbing alcohol is usually effective for removing highlighter stains. However, alcohol will remove latex paint. Latex paint tends to be porous and absorbent, so it is likely that the highlighter is not just on the surface. If the stain can not be removed, it should be covered with a couple coats of primer/sealer like Zinnser and repainted.

If that doesn't help, try nail polish remover.

Try Expo cleaner for overhead markers. You can find it in the office supply area. It takes just about any kind of marker off. I used it as a teacher to remove sharpie marker from many different surfaces. I keep a bottle at home just in case.

Years ago my father in law offered to take care of the kids so my husband and I could go to dinner. I put them all to bed and we went out and had a fine time. We came home and Dad was sitting in our chair reading a good book and our youngest, a little 3 year old girl was hiding behind the chair. Dad greeted us and said "Oh she woke up and she has been so quiet and good just playing behind the chair. I didn't bother to take her back upstairs." My husband and I looked at eachother and smiled. Dad was clueless - our little girl drew the entire family including the cat on the wall directly behind him and he didn't know. Of course it was magic marker black ink. Dad was mortified at first but then said, "You know these drawings are quite good for a child her age."

We painted the wall but it bled through. So we had to spray the wall with something to seal the ink and then paint over it. Good luck.

I don't know how to clean the highlighter off the wall but I had good luck keeping my little ones busy by reading to them while I nursed the babies. Maybe that would help keep your daughter out of trouble! Good luck with both of them.

Mr. Clean Magic Erasers are amazing!

I got permanent marker off of my white wall with Clorox Clean Up. It comes in a white spray bottle.

P.S. the marker is still in his bed sheets. Lol...But not on the wall.
