How Do Get Stubborn Stains off My Burner Grates on My Stove

I have a gas strove and the burner grates are gray. However, you can hardly tell they are gray anymore, because of all the stains from god knows what. My mom told me to put easy off on them and let them sit for hours and then scrub them real hard with a brillo pad but that didn't help. I'm wondering if I should just get new grates because it's starting to look terrible. I miss my beautiful, shiny, brand new looking grates. Any advice??

What can I do next?

I have used oven cleaner. I put them on a towel, spray on the cleaner and let it sit for a few mintues, scrub off and then wash with soapy water just to get the chemicals off. Mine turned out nice and shiny again. Just be careful of the fumes from the oven cleaner.

I use vinegar to clean mine, I soak them in the sink then use the brillo pad and they come clean. Sometimes though I have to scrub a little harder on some spots, but elbow grease and vinegar does the trick for me. Hope this helps.

I know the exact grates you are talking about. I've had them in the past. They don't come clean after a while. You can buy some bbq grill spray paint or appliance spray paint and either paint them grey again or you may want to paint them black. I would opt for black. Good luck! :)

Nancy,

I have the same problem. I use Dawn Power Dissolver. I put my grate in the sink and spray it down, then I let it sit. After that I scrub it with a scruffy sponge or brillo pad depending on how bad they are. That usually gets most of it off. If I have any left, or have left it too long cause I got distracted, I'll spray it again.

Lastly, the greatest cleanser in the entire world is Barkeepers Friend. It's been around forever, endorsed by Queen of Clean, and works like a charm with no scratching.

Good Luck,
L.

I've been cleaning other peoples houses for about 17 years now, and one thing i swear by is a silver chore boy. They are a bit harder to get than the copper ones, but work wonders. I've used this on everything from ovens to showers and floors, and it's worked every time. If the oven grates are really stubborn, I use a bit of comet with it, and with a bit of work, i've made more than one stove look like new again. These also work great for built up soap scum in the shower, as they don't scratch, they're designed to use on teflon. It has to be chore boy brand tho, the low cost copies just dont work the same, and last time I got one I believe it was at ACO. Good Luck!!
