How Dangerous Can the Fever Be?

My 2 old son had a fever for 9 days. After having a fever for 3 days I took him to the clinic to be seen, the doctor said that he has an ear infection and thought that his fever still too high for just an ear infection. He had him do some blood tests and everything looked normal. He gave him some antibiotics and said that the fever should go away in a couple of day. My son didn't improve and I had to take him to his regular doctor on the 7th day of the fever. He had to do some blood tests again, X-rays and urine test. He said that everything looked normal. He switched him to a new antibiotic. The same night his fever went up to 105.2. I called the office's doctor and they said that I just need to give him some Tylenol and Ibuprofen and watch if the fever won't go away.
He was feeling better during the night but had fever agin the next night. His doctor called me and asked me to take him to the ER on Saturday, which I did. But again, they said that he does not have anything and that I had to stop giving him the antibiotics. Since Saturday, his fever broke and seems to be normal. He is just more aggressive and very irritable. His doctor called me yesterday saying that he needs to be seen to make sure that he does not have anything in his brain or the bone of the ear.
Does anyone experienced something similar and what did you do? I am very worried about him and don't want to think of the worse.

What can I do next?

My son ran a high fever about a month ago. I thought the danger point was 103. It was coming and going and coming again. I took him to the Childrens hospital and they couldn't do much for him but give him children's motrin. THe dr. said a viral infection of some kind might follow. And she was right it did. But I was so scared.
Now when my sister was young she had run a fever so high that she ended up having a seizure. She has had some other abnormal and out of the blue problems, so not sure if it was actually from the high fever or another problem.
105 degree fever is high, that is what the dr. told me the danger point actually is. I would definitley get him checked out if they recommend it. He is probably irritable though, because he hasn't slept good, he's tired and probably tired of feeling so horrible.

Hi, I had the same thing last year w/my 6 year old. She had a high temp for 3 days so I took her to her reg.DR. they said it must be a virus so we went home and three days later she was still running a fever so I took her back. the did a strepp test Neg. So the Dr. suspected Mono, they had several cases in our area. She had the fever for 2 weeks and all I colud do was give her motrin and Amoxicillin. She was tired and sore for about a month. I don't think her fever went above 104 though. I was really glad they caught it within the first week. Now she is not allowed to drink from the water fountains at school since I think that is where she got it from. Good luck:) A.

Fever is very dangerous, especially for small kids. My question is what the primary reason of the fever? I think, it can be cold or foreign body in his ear, but it looks that he got the allergic reaction on antibiotics later on. Even if he feel better, don't live this situation without the answer and be carefull next time, tell the doctor about the probabillity of the allergic reaction.

Please be aggressive with the doctors if you need to be.
A fever can cause permanent brain injury. One of my cousins is mildly retarded and the only cause was a fever left untreated. If you have to go to the hospital and tell them that you can't get the fever down and tell them that they need to do it then that is what you do. My sister at a young age had to be kept on a water blanket set to 50 degrees for 5 days to keep her fever down.
The body uses fever to fight infection, but it will damage the body, and the brain too when left unchecked.

The answer is VERY VERY VERY serious in my knowledge base.
Good Luck!
