My little girl didn't make it to 20 lbs until 18 months! She was only 20.4 lbs then. she has always been small but healthy!
I'm a mother of a 9 month old baby and she weighs 17.2 pounds, her peditrician said her weight dropped, but when she was 6 months she weighed 15 pounds, so how could her weight dropped and she gained 2 pounds? I don't understand that at all!!!!! so I asked him how much she is suppose to weigh, and he said 18 to 19 pounds. so i'm asking do some babies weigh 17 pounds at 9 months?

My child weighed 17 lbs at a year old and they said she was on the 1% for weight. She is now 3 and has caught up just fine. Don't worry. If she is eating and is healthy thats all you can do.
All kids are different, I'm surprised the Doc. told you that. The most important thing is that she stay along her own growth curve. Ask your pediatrician if she is where she is supposed to be for her, not everyone else.
Are you feeding her Formula... is that what you mean by "milk?"
Are you still feeding her that ON demand 24/7? If not, then do so. Day AND night.
Feed her the bottle (or if nursing), BEFORE giving solids.
For the 1st year of life, a baby's PRIMARY source of nutrition, is from breastmilk/Formula... NOT solids and not other liquids.
"Solids" is just an introduction/supplemental source of nutrition, for the 1st year. It should not constitute the majority of intake a baby has.
If you give her "solids" before the bottle/nursing... then that is usually done in order to "wean" a baby from it. That is NOT want you want to do, at her age. Nor for the 1st year.
Give her her bottle before solids... then later, about 1/2 hour later or more, then give her solids.
As the previous poster said... I don't think .8 lbs, is a big difference.
How is her overall growth/weight gain percentiles? And how is her development & overall health? If those are fine, then I would not get too worried.
My son at 9 months weight 19 lbs. 12 oz.
My daughter at 9 months was 18 lbs. 5 oz.
At that age, and for the 1st year, for my kids when they were babies... I nursed them upon waking in the morning, on demand at other times & before solids, before naps, before bedtime, during the night if they woke AND were going through a "growth-spurt"... and whenever they indicated they needed a feeding. "Solids" for my kids, at that age... was about 1-2 times a day. Not the majority of their intake source. I nursed them on-demand... and at that age, my kids were still nursing about every 3 hours. Depending on appetite, which at times were more or less.
I would recommend, do NOT feed your baby her bottle, on a "schedule." Because that way, the baby does not get sufficient intake... you need to feed on-demand. AND, 9 months is a typical "growth-spurt" time... so at these times, a baby typically needs more intake and more frequently.
Or, ask your Doctor, if he/she feels your baby needs to gain weight. HOW to do that.
All the best,
Susan
you would need to ask your pediatrician if she is healthy for her size. some babies are just smaller. if he didn't show concern or give you instructions to try to help her "bulk up", then there probably isn't a problem. give your ped. a call back and ask. but for the record i don't think that .8 lbs is a huge issue lol.
that's such a small discrepancy I wouldn't worry about it. Babies' weights ebb and flow and when they are becoming mobile won't gain as fast or may even lose weight. Unless she has fallen way off her curve there shouldn't be a problem.
She just may not be very big built and I can't believe the doctor is nit picking over a pound or 2 , my middle daughter has always beem long and slim , at 18 months she only just weighed 20lb.
My baby girl turned 9mo yesterday. She hasn't had her 9mo check up yet, but at an 8mo sick visit she was 20lbs. However, she is tall for her age. You have to factor that in too. A baby that is shorter will obviously weigh less.
Get a new doctor if he is going to be THAT picky! They go by averages. Our daughter was always on the smaller side. About 15% to 25% for height and weight. If she's eating, peeing, pooping, and progressing normally with skills, SHE"S HEALTHY!
Don't get too caught up in the AVERAGES of what they should weigh at each stage. My daughter was below average in weight at almost every check-up, and usually above average in height. We are all different sizes and shapes remember, and our pediatrician would point to the fact that I am tall and slim, so not to worry. I know that we feed her real food and not very much "junk" food at all, and as long as you are feeding properly and she is eating when she's hungry, don't fret.
I used to watch a little girl who was only 15 lbs. at around 10 monthes. She was healthy. There are so many other things to look at. What is her height, head circumference, and is she healthy are just a few of the other questions. My older children were off the chart and my younger son is so so skinny. I would not worry.
Wow...my first son barely weighed 17 lbs at a year old..As others have mentioned as long as your daughter is happy, healthy and meeting all her milestones I wouldn't worry about it at all..
My pediatrician wasn't worried either, as long as my son was progressing on his own "curve". Some babies are just smaller or larger than others. Just to show you how different each baby is, my 6 month old son weighs more than my son did at a year old, hes at 19lbs right now, and only 3 inches shorter than my 1st...Same mommy and daddy, just drastically different kiddos..Your doing great Mommy....I wouldn't be worried unless there was a drastic change in her weight progression...
Really?? That seems strange - at 9 months my daughter weighed 19lbs, but she was in like the 97th percentile!! She was considered a big baby... I wouldn't worry - it sounds to me like your baby is normal size.
All babies are different and as long as she is following her curve for height and weight, she is fine. I hate it when Drs try to put all babies in the same pattern!! My daughter wasn't even 20 lbs when she turned 1yr old and my son was 20 lbs at 9 months and now at the age of almost 4yrs old he is only pushing 35!!! Both my children all tall and thin like me, my hubby, and relatives on both sides of the family!!
As long as you know she is healthy and eating right, don't stress it!

Every one of my five children weighed only 18 lbs at their one year checkup.
My last child will be 4 next week and she only weighs 26lbs. As long as they are healthy they are fine.
Really? My daughter weighed 19 lbs at 12 months. 18-19 lbs for a 9 month old seems big. I wouldnt worry about it, she sounds perfect to me!
I think you might want to consider finding another pediatrician. If your child is within 10% above/below her growth curve since birth, she's fine.
Based on your ped's comments, not only are you now worried, you've gained very little information with your question.
Good luck!
If your daughter is happy and healthy then she should be fine. My daughter was no where near that weight at 9months. She only weighs 20lbs now and she is 17mo. Kids come in all different sizes that's why it's called an average. I have a small build and frame so we think she is just taking after me. My pediatrician has no problem with her being on the small size she is happy, healthy and meeting all of her milestones. I would consider getting a new doctor if he/she is going to be so picky.
