HI right now Im 35 week pregnant and this is my first baby, I have 1 month living at the united states and I got my insurance this week, I need to have my monthly check up but I been triying to find an obstetrician without any result yet. No body wants to give me an appointment because they ask for my medical records which are all in spanish because they are from mexico or because they are not very complete. I been asking in different places and I don't have any answers.

I have to mention that Im a legal alien with blue cross shield insurance.
So far I been trying with 4 doctors around the berwyn area wit no results.

What can I do next?

There is nothing on your insurance that says if you bought it through the exchanges or direct, so don't worry about the "obamacare" comment, some people just really want to see it fail. I agree with the poster that said to check with your insurance company for a list of providers, and to consider planned parenthood as a possibility. Some doctors don't like taking patients that are so far along without knowing their medical history and that could be your problem here.

I'm thinking it's because of liability. You're almost due and OB gyns don't want to be held responsible for previous prenatal care or lack thereof.

I like the suggestion to call the health department for help, a check up or referrals. Or call the member services number in your card & explain your need.

I see nothing in your post that says you purchased under the ACA. And don't believe all if the information given here if you did. I know at least a dozen people receiving great care with their ACA insurance.

I would find a hospital system in your area that you like and go visit the patient advocate's office. They have other names....patient assistance, patient affairs. Whatever. They will be able to assist you in having your chart translated, and can further assist you in finding a good obstetrician.

Best to you!

In addition to checking with your local hospital and department of health, I would suggest contacting a few local midwives and/or doulas or look up Bradley instructors. These are people who actually care about pregnant women (rather than just the paycheck), and they tend to be aware of a wide range of resources. Because your time is so short, I would start making these calls first thing tomorrow!

Cook County Dept of Public Health in Cicero, ###-###-####. They may be able to direct you to a doctor who will take you. There is also a Catholic Charities office in Cicero that might be able to help. I think it's really a sad reflection on our society that you are trying to do the right thing for you and your baby by getting care, yet nobody is willing to help. Good luck to you.

Welcome to mamapedia!!

Even with insurance? I would go to Planned Parenthood or a local hospital and tell them what is going on. You're going to have the baby either way!! :)

Ask your OB/GYN from Mexico to fax up pertinent information. New OB/GYN's might be afraid to take you because they don't know your history or what tests have been done, etc. and they don't want the liability if there is a problem.

Congrats on the baby!

Maybe you could make a visit to your old home for a month or so till you have your baby?
You have a doctor there that knows your history?
You have family there to help you once the baby arrives?
Where's the father?
Legal alien or not, did you come to have your baby here so he/she will have US citizenship?

Call your insurance provider and ask them for a list of docs who take it. They should take you regardless. Docs even take patients who haven't even been to the doc before.

Otherwise you may need to go to the health department for a check up and make sure everything is okay.

You can try calling or e-mailing:

They took me at a new patient when I was about 4 or 5 months along after I decided not to stay with my OB. They might be more willing to take you as a new patient than an OB. Planned Parenthood might be able to help you too. Good luck!

The problem may be the insurance. If you purchased through Obamacare, no one is taking it. Even the providers listed in the Preferred Provider lists that blue shield sends out don't take it. Also, you are so close to giving birth that without seeing your prior medical history, the docs are probably a bit leary, given how everyone is so sue-happy. I think you should contact the local county health clinic or planned parenthood.

Contact ICAN of Chicago. Although this is your first baby, the organization exists to try to prevent unnecessary cesareans and to promote more natural birth. They will have contacts to more patient friendly doctors. Here is their facebook page:
