They are third cousins...
It can get complicated - so just say that they are cousins...makes it much easier that way!!
My husband has an uncle who has a grandson. Is the grandson cousin to my kids? My head is already spinning trying to figure it out. Thanks in advance....
Gracious, you ladies are WAY smarter than I am with this!

Yes, I come up with second cousins.
Your husband and the children of his uncle are 1st cousins. Your children and the children of his (1st) cousins are 2nd cousins.
2 Brothers have children = 1st cousins
Children of 1st cousins = 2nd cousins
Children of 2nd cousins (when that time comes) = 3rd cousins
My understanding on the once removed is this:
Bill and Bob are brothers
Bill Jr and Bob Jr are 1st cousins
Bill III and Bob III are 2nd cousins
Bill Jr and Bob III are 1st cousins - once removed.
Simple answer is yes. Easy way to think of it is your husband and this uncle's child are cousins. Makes your husband this child's second cousin and therefore your kids are his third cousin.
You already have an answer to your question, but I thought I'd chime in with this tip that helps me keep relations straight: "removed" has to do with whether or not the person is of your generation. So, my mom's first cousin is my first cousin once removed. My mom's cousin's kids are the same generation as me, so they are my second cousins. My grandmother's first cousin is my first cousin, twice removed because they are 2 generations away from mine.
Assuming blood relation, I think he is your husband's first cousing once removed and your son's second cousin. Of course, if they are all blood related.
Husband's uncle's child would be his cousin. Husband's child would be "first cousins once removed" with his cousin, and second cousins with his cousin's son (I think). It helps if you draw a chart and see that you and your husband's son and his uncle's grandson are of the same generation, but the second generation after the grandparents (your husband's mother/father and uncle), therefore making them "second" cousins.
I think they are second cousins once removed. Maybe third cousins.
Maybe google it. In our family there are so many they are just all cousins.
Ahh third cousins. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cousin
I think S.M. is right. A freind explained it to me once, it's all very confusing. In my husbands large family they would be called cousins.
He is your son's second cousin. He is your first cousin, once removed.
Honestly though, when it goes beyond first cousin, I just tell my kids, "Yep, that's your cousin too."
My husband's grandmother's first cousin's son has 2 daughters about the same age as my boys, so they play together at family gatherings. We just call them, "Cousin," because I am not smart enough to calculate that far along :) (Are they 3rd cousins?)
My sister's husband's cousin's kids call me "cousin." I like it that way :)
His uncle's children are your husbands 1st cousins. That would make a grandchild his 2nd cousin therefore it would be your childrens 3rd.
If I have my geneology straight it would go like this... your husbands parent and his uncle are siblings. Uncle's son and your husband are first cousins. Your children and Uncle's grandson (grandchildren) are first cousins twice removed. Hope that helps.
They are second cousins. Your husband and the uncle's kids are first cousins and your kids and the uncle's grandkids (your husband's cousin's kids) are second cousins. Have you ever heard the song "I'm my own grandpa." This is making my head spin too.
I love all the answers! If this little guy is happy being a cousin, then by all means, he is one! As he gets older, he may wonder where he fits in. If he starts as a cousin, he will always have a place. Hugs to you and to him!
It's a distant cousin to you and your kids. If the mother/father of this child is your husband's first cousin, the child is your husband's first cousin once removed and your child's second cousin. But really, what does it matter? You know it's some sort of cousin that isn't their first cousin and people don't really go around saying, "This is Teddy, my first cousin once removed."
