We are having a college student come over and house/dog sit for a week while we are on vacation. She will be living at our home for that week and we have no idea what to pay her. Can you help me with the going rate for house/pet sitting?

God Bless...

What can I do next?

We have had several college students and we pay $25 a night. We also try to stock the fridge/pantry and tell them they're welcome to anything. We have never had trouble getting students to stay for that rate. They usually live with their parents and are happy to have some space to themselves. We have 2 dogs who need to be fed and let out and we like the mail to get emptied out of the box a couple times a week. A professional dogsitter costs a lot more, which is understandable because they're licensed/bonded, etc.

I always just ask when I call to set it up if $25 a night is okay. I usually pay for the day we come home even though they don't stay that night.

I think 50 dollars per day is alot!! Is living at your house for a week a perk? I guess I don't see why her staying at your house would justify more money? I don't know. I think I'd give her like 200 bucks for the week? I take care of my neighbors 2 cats when they go out of town. I don't stay there or anything but I go twice per day and one of the cats needs a drop put in its eye each time I go - I feed them, change the litter box, bring in the mail, leave the lights on at night, etc. They only give me 7 dollars per day.

Is she going to be living there for the entire week?

We get paid $50. per day and they have 1 dog and 2 cats.

If it is just the cats it is $30.

The dog has to be walked a couple of times a day.

We've always paid someone to house/dog sit. We pay $30 per overnight stay. $20 for a partial day.

I have hired many pet sitters and the going rate for Plano/Frisco is $50 -$75 a night. They are also responsible for mail pick-up, watering flowers etc.
