Hotels in San Antonio

I am looking to take a much needed vacation with my 19 month old next month. We plan on going to San Antonio and take her to Sea World. We are going to fly out there but we are looking for a good hotel to stay at. She sleeps in her own bed so I called around to see if the hotel had a crib and most are saying they either have playpens or metal cribs. Are any of these safe? I don't plan on traveling with the play pen. Also I would like to fly with our bigger stroller, can I? I really don't want to take our umbrella stroller.
Any good ideas are much appreciated.

Thanks

So What Happened?

We had a great time at the Embassy Suites in San Antonio. The full complimantary breakfast was great. We rented from Avis and also used the GPS. It was a life saver!!! There was so much construction going on all over that we were able to by pass a lot. Sea World was great too, my daugher loved it. They have a great kids area at the Lagoon, too bad she didn't want to get in the water. This was a wonderful 2 day get away.

I think the Embassey Suites is most family / kids friendly and always stay there when we travel. I travel with a 3 year old and an 18 month. Last summer we went to San Antonio and had a BLAST, I tend to not worry about much staying at the Embassey Suites, they have beds for the kids, and free BREAKFAST in the morning... Can't beat that!

Hyatt Hill Country! It is very close to Sea World and is very family friendly. There is so much to do and see around the property that you really don't even need to leave to find something to do.

You should be able to check your stroller at the gate. Check with your airline to make sure of their specifics.

Personally, I would drive because once you wait for the plane, wait on the runway, wait for luggage, etc. you could be there. We drive our kids to SA a lot and usually either leave early in the morning while they are still asleep or leave at naptime. It's only 4 hours from FW. Anyway - it's difficult to get around SA without a car. For Seaworld, I would recommend Radisson Hill Country - it's literally across the highway from the airport and has a great "beach entry" pool that's perfect for little ones. Plus, they run a non-spot shuttle to and from the front gate of Sea World all day long, so you can leave during the day and go back for a nap really easy.
As for flying with the big stroller, I have done it many times, you will probably have to fold it for the attendants as no one ever can. However, if you decide to go downtown to the Riverwalk on a weekend night, I would leave the big stroller in your room and take a backpack, if your child will sit in one. The riverwalk is handicapped accessible, but it's really really bad and there are stairs everywhere, which make using the big stroller a nightmare. It's also really busy at night, so there isn't much room and people will be accidentally hitting the stroller a lot. We've always used a hiking backpack down there and it works great.

Good luck and have a great time!

We take our pack n play when we travel. It folds up super small, and our son sleeps in it easier because he knows it. I'm one of those that most people say are overprotective, and I tend to get nervous around cribs that I don't know anything about. Good luck, and have fun! We're taking ours there in July. We hear there's a great kids museum where they get to do hands on things and that it's great for even our youngster's age (he will be 19 months at the time). You may want to check it out. I don't know the name, though.

Hyatt Hill Country is awesome! If it is too pricy, Radisson Hill Country is nice too. We have stayed there and enjoyed it a lot! They are both right down the road from Sea World and have transportation too and from.

Hi J.. A while ago I stayed at The Westin Riverwalk, which is a very nice hotel right off the Riverwalk.

Address: 420 W Market Street, San Antonio, Texas 78205
Phone ###-###-#### · Fax ###-###-####

Check the internet for cheap rates. I stayed there for $88/night.

Regarding the stroller, you are able to take your larger stroller. It will need to be able to slide through x-ray machine at the security check point, then you can check it at the departure gate and pick it up when at the ramp when you exit the plane.

Hi J.! Try the Holiday Inn Express on South Saint Mary's Street. This is a nice, clean hotel and they have been extremely friendly and helpful every time we have stayed there. This hotel is located around 4 blocks from downtown which is great so that you can see all of the sights downtown and not have to park or ride the trolley. You can still drive to Sea World. Skip Fiesta Texas, not so great when you have Six Flags in your back yard. Be sure and see the San Antonio Children's Museum and the San Antonio Zoo, it is one of the best in the country. Have a great trip. It is my favorite city. By the way, check the San Antonio visitors bureau and ask about the SAVE rates on hotels.

I cant help with hotels, as I have only stayed with family there, but yes, you can check your big stroller when you board the plane, right at the door, so you can have it all through the airport, and get it immediately after landing. Also, I would stick to a play pen rather than a crib, it just seems safer. Or, if you think she would do it, there are these great little airmattresses with sleeping bag covers, like Dora or Princesses, that come with a little pump and everything, that are easy to travel with. I think I paid $30 for mine at walmart. Have tons of fun! ~A.~
