Hi ladies. my sister is leaving for the army in three weeks and we want to have a girls weekend in New York. Neither one of us has ever stayed over night in New York, so we have no idea where to stay...We will only stay overnight for one night, so we're not looking to spend too much, but we want a decent place and safe for two females. We'll mostly be shopping. So my question: Where are good places to stay in nyc? Thankyou!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you ladies for all the help! My sister and I ended up just making a day trip. We took the metro to chinatown in dc and hopped a bus to NY, very entertaining ride :) Next time we go, we will definately look into the recommendations given and make it longer than a day. THANK YOU!!!!!

The Marriott Marquis is probably a little $. However a few blocks up, there is another Marriott. Its by Penn Station- 37th St I think. That is a good location. Its only a few blocks South of Times Square, its right by Macy's and a bunch of other stores. Also, 2 Avenues over from 5th Ave. So you will have plenty around. That's a very touristy area. Otherwise, go downtown- to the village. That's less touristy, but a ton of shopping.

I don't know how much it cost because we went on a business trip, but my husband and I stayed at the Marriott Marquis in Time Square. It is in the middle of everything and I felt completely safe in the area. Do you have an entertainment book? Check it out online and see what kind of deals you can get? I booked a hotel in Austin and saved close to $200 for our two night stay. It cost $10 for the book, but it was well worth it for the savings.

I have been to NYC twice and stayed at Hotel Edison both times. Its right in the middle of Time Square and it wasn't too expensive but it was still nice. Its nothing fancy and its an older hotel but I would definitely stay there again next time we go.

I went to NYC with my daughter a couple yrs ago for a special trip. Hubby sent us in style...we had an awesome adventure and stayed at the Waldorf Astoria.

We walked most everywhere or rode the double decker bus. Hubby had transportation arranged from the airport.

It was worth every penny!!!

Erin is right, the Mariott Marquis really is the best. Not sure price though.

My husband used to go there a lot on business, and I always tried to go with him. As long as you walk with a purpose and act like you belong, you'll be fine. I used to wonder around by myself all the time while he was in meetings and we always stayed in the middle of Times Square.
