My husband and I just got a Hot Tub, but we're trying to concieve another child. I've heard that women who are pregnant should not get in hot tub, Can anyone explain why? Oh and we only keep it at 98 because of our other children.

What can I do next?

it has to do with heart function too, when you are pregnant your heart has to work for two, ralaxing it too much can have negative effects

it will heat the baby up due to the temp never changes like in a bath tub. if you keep getting out it should be ok. the heat heats up your blood wich in turn heats up the baby. I wouldnt do it often. I did do it with my tub at 98 as well but kept getting out. It was cold out so my body never had a chance to get too hot when I would go in and out.

I would think it is because of the way your body temp rises while in a hot tub. it is not a good idea because it can put stress on the fetus. It has something to do with blood pressure and temperature. If i were you i wouldnt go in at all even for a little while if you are pregnant. Never chance it.

If you are pregnant do get in it at all unless your DR says it's ok. Your body temp is already about 98 and with the added heat, it gets to hot for the baby. Please ask your DR frist!

Hubby needs to stay out of it until you have conceived. It's the same principle as the boxers vs tighty-whities. Sperm don't do very well when they get too hot. Most will probably be ok, but why handicap them if you are really trying to conceive?! As for you, as others said, it is generally recommended for a pregnant woman to avoid hot tubs, and if you are TTC, you won't exactly know for a couple of weeks if you are pregnant or not. From what I understand, most studies are inconclusive, but some have shown a higher rate of miscarriage or birth defects. It's a lot like having an alcoholic drink once in a while during pregnancy, nothing has actually been proven, but there's enough evidence out there for most people to err on the side of caution. Google "Answers" has some interesting information and links to studies about this.

At that temp--you should be fine. But do know that hot tubs are said to make men sterile--at least for a little while--but again, at that temp even he should be ok. Once you find out you are prego for sure, you might want to ask your doc about it just to be safe. I think I take baths that hot and I am 26 wks prego. Good Luck!
