My husband is sending me on a Hot Air Balloon ride for my 30th! He isn't coming cause he is to scared :) I just don't know where to do it at. I was thinking Napa area but will that be kind of boring since all you will see is green hills? Would Tahoe be better? Any suggestions??? I live in the Bay area and don't mind driving a bit.

Also, my 5 year old said he wanted to go with me. I am not sure I feel to comfortable with that. What do you think?

What can I do next?

My parents did their hot air balloon ride over Lake Tahoe - their neighbors gave it to them as their 50th wedding anniversary gift...they live in Lancaster - so they made a weekend of it...

it was a great time!!

I don't understand why your husband is scared. Does he refuse to get on an airplane? Its just mind over matter.

They have some champagne balloon flights in Temecula.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

I hope you have fun. Good luck to you and yours.

Balloon baskets are pretty deep. Take your 5 year old...he'd love it! It's a great way to broaden his horizons.

Also, there's no reason for your child to be afraid just because your husband is chicken! ;o)

Enjoy it, and happy birthday!

Hot air balloon rides are really awesome, but I'm not sure if it would hold the attention of a five year old (trees and lakes get kind of boring quick for little ones sometimes). But if he's a more mellow type of kid, bring him. The baskets are deep and they can even clip little kids in so there's no danger of them falling.

Well, since my Dad is a hot air balloon pilot, I have to vote for Jackson, WY...though that might be a little further than you were hoping for. Either way, enjoy!!

I am not sure I would take my 5 year old. This is supposed to be a pleasure for you for your special day, and if he does get scared it will ruin it. I would take him next time after you know better what to expect.

I dont have any suggestions as to where to go, but there is nothing to be afraid of! Hot air balloons are safe & so much fun! I am deathly afraid of heights ( I cant even stand on a ladder I'm such a scardey pants) but I have taken 2 balloon rides, I was 7 the first time..and both times I had a blast!! And your son will have fun too.

I'd take a friend. I do not think that they are going to allow a 5 yr. old. Also the basket is pretty deep...not sure that he can see over it without you holding him up and not sure that is safe.

I took my husband for a balloon ride for his birthday and we had a blast. I am deathly afraid of heights but you get used to it while you are up there. The take off is what really got to me. There was a 5 yr old on ours and he was just fine.
I really don't know where to tell you to go since I am in NY but try to pick somewhere with a great view. When we went the first group got to see the mall and the highway. When we went we got to see the country side and all the beautiful views. We were a mile and a half up where the first group stayed pretty low. It was a great experience. Make sure to take a camera and a camcorder if you have one. This way you can show your husband what he missed. Hope you have a great time!!! I know I did!
