Looking for an idea from all you creative moms out there. My family is going up north for Easter to spend the weekend with my sister and her husband. I've packed a bag of Easter surprises for my kids, and a little tiny something for hubby. I'd like to do a little something for my sis and her husband too... something small and fun and festive. Here's the problem: He's diabetic and she's on a major weight loss program so the beautiful chocolate eggs, bunnies, chocolate covered strawberries etc. are out of the question. They do eat nuts, so I was thinking about trying to do some sort of fun little container full of healthier snacks, but I'm just at a loss... Any ideas are welcome!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all your creative ideas. I ended up putting together a small basket with things they love, fragrant soap and lotion, chapstick, sugar free breath mints and interesting flavored nuts (none with sugar). It wasn't a lot of things, but at least they won't have a whole bunch of nothin' while my family enjoys their little treats.

Along with the other great ideas... How about an Easter decoration or center piece for a table. They can pull them out each year.

If you want a food gift, what about a trail mix type treat with nuts, sunflower seeds, yogurt covered pretzels or raisins, dried fruit, cereal. Chex made a strawberry flavor cereal that might work well in such a mix (fruity, spring-like, Easter-ish).

Books. Gift certificates. Coffee mugs. I love a good lotion from L'Occtaine or some special place. A plant. Yoga pants (for the one on a diet). Hair ties (for working out). A good magazine. Stationary. A cooking tool....

Hope that helps!

This is one of the best little hostess gifts I know, they're inexpensive and there are a variety of designs for any occassion. For Easter, I'd get Celebrate Spring. http://www.tuits.com/celebrate.html

Why not cook on Easter? You could buy a ham and make a salad and dye some easter eggs, etc.

Easter should not be about candy anyway. I only bought one very small chocolate bunny for my kids Easter baskets, cuz I know that they will get inundated with candy from all sides ( got got them toys and books and new bathing suits, etc.). I am putting money and hair ties and stickers in the plastic eggs that they will find Easter morning. Frankly, I am really sick and tired of people giving candy to my kids and thinking that it is being festive and kind. I don't like it around the house. When they bring it all home, I have the dilemma of letting them eat it all so it is gone, or let them eat some and them try to get rid of it while they are not looking! We do just fine without eating candy every day, thank you very much!

Homemade, healthy treats go a long way. There's several healthy and diabetic friendly recipes online. Or something crafty, decorative (a non-food item) from your kids. Maybe it's Easter/spring themed so they can keep it and use it again next year. I think Parents magazine might have some spring craft ideas online.

How about movie tickets, an edible arrangement, a plant, a couple of favorite movies on DVD?

Your sister and her hubby are lucky to have such thoughtful siblings!
