Good Afternoon,
I have googled this, but have not found a concrete answer.
Is it legal for a hospital to admit me if i have not fully paid IF i am in labor?
I am currectly 9 months pregnant and was due on the 20th. My OBGYN scheduled me to be induced next week, if i dont go into labor on my own.
The hospital contacted me and informed me they would need a certain ammount up front.
It is impossible for me to come up with that kind of money in a week or so.

What can I do next?

If you went into labor, they would help you. But I'm not sure they would induce you unless it was a medical emergency (maybe your doctor would declare a medical emergency if you are a week late, I have no idea the circumstances of your pregnancy or your doctor's protocol).

You didn't mention your insurance status or if you are self-pay. Either way I would start by calling back the hospital and telling them upfront you won't be able to pay a lump sum within the week, and ask what your options are. I'm pretty positive you are not the first (and won't be the last) patient who is asking. Likely they will have options.

Good luck!

Shouldn't that have been worked out with the hospital when you first got pregnant? That would've given you nine months to save up. I worked out a payment plan from the start. It's surprising they didn't do that with you.

If you are truly in labor, a hospital CANNOT deny you care, or they would be violating the EMTALA law. I work in Labor & Delivery, and can assure you that you and your baby would receive the care you need regardless of your ability to pay. There is also emergency medicaid for this type of situation if you qualify.

Do you not have insurance? What does your Dr. say?

Why would you not have the money if you have known for 9 months that you would be required to pay the hospital. What was your plan? Why didn't you plan?

How long have you known you would be paying the hospitaI? I would assume you have been saving in the 9 months to prepare for your baby if you knew in advance that you are paying the hospital. Money doesn't magically appear when needed, we have to plan for things like this.

At least talk to the hospital and set up a payment plan before you check in.

I wish you the best with your baby and I hope all are healthy!
