Horrible Spitting Up

Ok Mama's,
I asked a yogurt question last month and I thought everything was great but I was wrong.

Here is a little history first. My son has had spitting up issues since day one, he has been on every formula we could get our hands on. He was on Zantac and after that didn't work his dr. put him on Prevacid. During that time he had a sonogram of his tummy and intestines to check for problems, nothing was found. He was still having issues so he has a barrium swallow study and has referred to a Pediatric Gastointeraligest (spelling). We were told that this was normal and we could put him on normal formula, he was on lactose free formula at the time. So needless to say he always has a bib on and spit rags handy.

I gave him yogurt with breakfast on a Saturday a few weeks back. He spit up after and I didn't think anything of it except thinging it was really foul smelling. I gave it to him again (a few days later) just thinking oh it is was just normal spitting up, well it happened again. This time he spit up on my mom and she said "Hey I don't think that smells "normal", maybe his tummy isn't talerating that".

So my question is has this happened to any of you? He was eating the Yo Baby Banana and Vanilla flavors. We already purchased the Peach and Pear flavors but I haven't given him any yet. Should I give it a few weeks and then try it again or just leave it alone for a few months? He eats anything you put on his plate, he is really interested in finger foods right now.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I agree with what every one has said. I talked about this with my husband last night and we decided that we are going to give him a few months and then try again, some time closer to his first birthday. Thank you all for your helpful advise.

My son had terrible reflux from birth. He had a barrium swallow as well and it was normal. We ended up switching pediatricians after that b/c we moved and the new doctor said he'd outgrow it as soon as he started walking. Sure enough right at one year, no more spitting up. You might want to skip the yogurt till he's older.

My youngest had acid reflux from 7 wks until about 14 months. We ended up w/Soy Formula "Prosobee"(sp?) which is the only one that really worked. He had a dairy allergy so we had to do Soy milk and no dairy (cheese, yogurt) until about 15 months.

I hope this helps. We also had to do the Barium which made him had a lot of excessive diarreah w/ a really bad diaper rash.

Good Luck

My first son had terrible spit up from the time he was born up til he was 1 year. We figured out that he had GERD and put him on Lacto free formula.

My daughter spit up a lot, until she was 1. At 1, the ONLY thing she spit up was yogurt. She was fine with any other milk product. She eventually grew out of it, at about 18 months. But when she had the issue, if she had just a tiny bite, she'd spit up within minutes. You might just lay off the yogurt for a few months, and try introducing it again in a bit.

Maybe your son is just really allergic to the yogurt.
Also, I've always been told by my pediatrician NO yogurt until they are at 1 year of age.
Then I was told by my Wic Nutritionist that a small amount at 9 months is ok.
So I basically just held off until he turned 1 and we've never had any problems.
My best advice would be to hold off a few more months especially with him spitting up so much.
He sounds like he has a very sensitive tummy and anything that's causing him to throw up more really is not good.
Good luck to you!!
