I agree with spray conditioner/tangle spray.
Also, if she grows it longer again, a braid before bedtime helps a lot.
Does anyone have any suggestions for how to cure bed head?
My 2 yr old DD has a pretty bad case. I'm not talking about messy hair...
This is where her hair in the back of her head is all course and frizzy from laying on it. Combing it just combs through knots....but the frizz and texture doens't change.
We've cut it off a few times at the suggestion of our hair stylist, but we're at a point where the rest of her hair is longer now, and then in the back it's this choppy frizz. If I cut it more, she's going to look silly.
Any suggestions?

My daughter's hair does this and it is super straight and fine. On the advice of my Mom I put a silk slip over her pillow and it works like a charm. She still needs a good brushing in the morning (who doesn't) but it is no longer sticking straight up and out in the back when she wakes up. Good luck!

My youngest has super fine curly hair, makes great ringlets, only in the morning her hair looks like she got into a fight with a blender. My oldest girl had the frizz issue, and my next dd has super thick curly/wavy hair. the magic answer for all of them was a leave in type conditioner. You can make your own, by putting some water in a squirt bottle and adding a tablespoon or two of conditioner or you can by any over the counter one, and if all else fails...a little baby lotion will do the job.
Conditioner - the spray in kind?
Sounds like she has curly hair. Even if it looks straight.
Spray w no more tangles (saturate it) and comb out. Or a bath/shower every morning.
Curly hair shapes itself when wet. Sweating at night is enough. In order to reshape, it has to be gotten wet again. No more tangles not only gets it wet, but SLIPPERY, so the hair doesn't Velcro back on itself as it dries.
We have the same issue with our 2 year old. I finally bought her some Suave No More Tangles for like $1.49 and it is AMAZING! She still wakes up that way, but, it isn't unmanagable anymore. We just spray it in the tangled/frizzy parts and then use a wide comb to comb it out. She still says it hurts, but she is a wimp:) Actually, I think she has a really really tender head like my sister and my aunt. I can't braid her hair because she won't hold still that long and it hurts her too much to get it that tight that it will stay in her hair. I'd give this a try, and if it doesn't work, you're only out a couple of dollars.
Maybe a satin pillowcase would reduce the friction causing the frizzy-ness.
Can you put it in a braid? I'd try that.
Good luck!

Try her sleeping with a silk (silk-like) scarf on her head. (Re: Aunt Jemima) this will allow her to turn and move her head without it tangling and messing up her hair at night. You can use any scarf or go to a beauty supply store and buy a specially made one for this purposes.
John Freida's Full repair spray after washing her hair (while it's still wet), then use a detangling spray. OR you can use a heat protectent spray (I love the Tresseme one, it's cheap, works great and smells fantastic). It coats the hair shaft and works as a detangler and will help her hair lay smooth even if you aren't applying heat to her hair.
My 7 yo daughter's is the same way...she was born with a full head of hair. The only thing I've tried that works somewhat is I use regular conditioner in the bath, use a wide tooth comb to get the tangles out and then put in a leave in conditioner and comb again. In the morning before school, if it's really bad I will put in a tiny bit of anti-frizz and brush it. Usually by mid-day it's calmed down :)
get a detangler and spritz the hair before combing/brushing.
Lol...same with my son. We're trying to wait it out. In the meantime, I keep it conditioned and moisturized and combed out.
I used to tie my girls hair back in a ponytail. Then in the morning to get rid of the frizz I would spray their hair with a spray bottle filled with water.
I found that leave in conditioner was the ONLY thing that worked. My poor daughter would get "bed head" from sitting in her car seat, sitting on the couch, napping or sleeping of course, and laying on the floor for too long. But using that leave in conditioner cured it.
I'm with Marla S. Suave makes a great de-tangler / leave-in conditioner for kids. My girl's both have curly hair. After the shower we spray it in and comb it through. In the morning if their hair is looking a little "sad", I spray the bad parts again, comb it through, and let it air dry. Also, Garnier makes a soft curl spray gel (around $3) that I spray in their hair, after the leave-in conditioner, and finger it through. Most times that does the trick and nothing more is needed in the morning except Maybe a quick spray of the detangler. The suave spray is with the kIds hair care products. Its in a green bottle with an orange cap. The Garnier is with the other Garnier products and is in a clear green bottle. Good luck!
