Horizontal Line on Pregnancy Test

So, my mind got the better of me and I bought a pregnancy test. It was the equate pregnancy test if that makes a difference. I got a faint horizontal line in the test window and a vertical line in the control window. The directions for the test only show three options... A vertical line in the test window and a vertical line in the control window, no line in the test window and a vertical line in the control window, and no line in either window. There is nothing in the directions that explains the horizontal line in the test window. I called the number on the box. The person who answered the phone said that "At this point in time, we consider that a positive result. But you should take another test tomorrow morning, or go to your doctor's office to be positive."

Obviously, I am going to do that. But I am just curious, has this happened to anyone else? What was the outcome?

I should add that the line appeared right away and was still there at the 2 minute mark (The time that they suggest to look at the results) but had faded away completely by 5 minutes.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I'm pretty sure that I'm not, as I stated in my previous post about how the mind can play tricks on the body. I just took this test because my mind got the better of me. I was surprised to see the line appear on the test! I think I will save the other test and wait until I actually miss a period before I take it :)

the line in the control window doesnt have anything to do with your result, it is to show you the test it working. the test window is what matters. if you got a negatve there thats a no and a positive there thats a positive.
so i would think no vertical line in the test window means you are not pregnant.

I would consider it a bad test and re-test in the morning. I've never had that happen before. Good luck hon!

Based on this image (and the "instructions" to the right of the actual testing windows) I would say this is a negative result.

Are you sure the line wasn't there before you took the test? could be just an abnormality on the paper that was there before that you only NOTICED afterward because you were staring at the window for a result. In my experience the lines get DARKER over the next few minutes, not lighter. The fact that it seemed to wash away as your urine passed through would make me think it was something already on the paper, not related to pregnancy hormones.

The reactive area is ONLY printed in ONE line. If a horizontal line really did appear when you tested, I'd say clearly, there was some malfunction in the manufacturing on your test. If the RIGHT strip got put in crooked, the line would appear facing the wrong direction with the same chemical reaction as if it had been facing the right direction (in which case it's a positive). But if THAT went wrong, I guess it could have been almost anything.

Test again tomorrow.

sounds like a negative result to me. If you are that sure you are...go to your doctor and have a blood test...

Great information about tests. I'm on several trying to conceive boards and people HATE and get vanishing results from Walmart brand tests. I'd try another brand. I've seen others get this result and I've seen it go both ways but every single test I've ever seen where you get an abnormal result you are usually instructed that something went wrong and it's inconclusive. I'm sure the Walmart line doesn't want to say that because you might insist on a refund or want another test from them. If they give you the answer of go to your doctor... well that's all the more they are pry going to have to deal with this clearly dysfunctional test be it user error or a bad test.
