I used Abeka with our kids that I taught to read in homeschooling. It's a very good way of adding sounds and blends.

Hi! I have got a 4 year old little man who we have been teaching how to read. We have been doing the BOB books and he is doing well with those and is sounding out words really well but I don't know how to teach the phonics. Are there any programs, books, websites etc that any of you recommend for teaching phonics? Thanks!
@Riley- You are so funny! We already use Starfall, I think that was the best for my son to learn all the sounds of the letters! But you are right, it gets really old to listen to those always, and I do let my son do it on his own. I will have to dig deeper into the site to look for more reading lessons.

English isn't phonetic (fonetic, fauxnetik, fahntic). It's far from the worst program out there (my baby can read types are the worst ones out there, they cause massive reasing delays in any age of a child, because we are an alphabet based language, not a symbol based language like Japanese or Chinese), but it's also far from the best.
www.starfall.com is both one of the absolute best, and is also absolutely free.
The TRICK with starfall, is after your kid gets the hang of it... WALK. A-W-A-Y. Let them repeat T! Tiger! Grrrr... 200 times in a row while you take a bath. The voices are JUST as happy the 1st and the millionth time, so kids can repeat and repeat and repeat... and they just soak it up like a sponge. Walk. Away. Even "How about we find out what's under B?" :D :D :D shows disapproval, and kids want our approval, so it sets up a paradigm where they aren't learning as swiftly or deeply as if we just left them to it.
Don't replace what you ALREADY do... just add it. <grin> And catch some much beloved/needed alone time nearby.
I taught my daughter how to read at 4 using "How to Teach your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons". Great book! My daughter and I had a lot of fun doing it and within 60 days she could read any easy reader because she knew phonics.
I have had very good success with "Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons" by Siegfried Engelmann. I used it with my oldest two and now with my third child. My older two are very advanced and avid readers. They learned very quickly with this book and I taught them between 3.5-4.5 years old. Hope you find a program that works for you and your son.
