Hello everyone. Since the big news has come out about not giving children under 2 cold medicine I have been searching for other things to ease my son's cold symptoms. Has anyone tried Manuka honey? It is supposed to be very good according to several studies that have been done about it. If anyone has used it, what were your results? My son is almost 16 months old.

What can I do next?

I am not familiar with Manuka honey, but I do think honey is a great alternative to some medicines since your child is over the age of 1. To clarify the previous poster, honey does not carry listeria (this causes illness in all age groups), it is the botulism spores (adults almost never affected) that are life threatening to infants.

I use a combination of the following; benadryl, saline, vicks, nasal spray (little noses brand-not saline), a cool-mist humidifier, echinacea, and extra vitamin C.

Hello N.,
I have tried this stuff called Hyland's Homeopathic cough syrup with honey with my son who is 16 months old now and it worked very well for him. it helped ease some of the coughs that he had, also i would give him a quater of a teaspoon of bendryal for the runny nose and stuffeness of the nose, this worked well for him, plus it was my ped that told me to do this, so it wasn't like i just gave it to him. I hope this helps good luck!

NEVER give honey to a child under the age of 1. It's very dangerous. Honey can have a bacteria in it called listeria. It could be fatal to a child under 1.

I heard don't know if it really works but a while ago i got an email about children's coughs. It stated if you rub vicks on the bottom of their feet then put socks on them before bed they will not cough. I have not tried this yet so like i said I'm not sure if it works but it won't hurt to try. good luck
