Whereabouts are you?
Hello My name is Elaine,
I am needing some work done on my car. To be specific my car didn't pass the safety inspection because the service engine light is on. I think it's an emmissions problem. Needless to say, I have to take my car in for repair and I need a reliable, HONEST, reasonably priced shop to go to. I will most likely have to take it in myself(not my husband). Being a woman I always feel targeted (vulnerable).
Can anyone recommend a shop???
Thank you!
Whereabouts are you?
We always take our car to Jay Jackson Automotive on Handley Ederville in Richland Hills. The number is ###-###-####. Hope that helps! :-)
I have the perfect place for you! My dad owns Keller Auto in Keller. It's at 377 and Keller Hicks. It's behind the Appliance store and next to Judge Bean's. He is the most honest guy I know and he never takes advantage of women. He always tries to explain it in terms you can understand. His wife (my M.) has worked with him for 20 yrs and knows women are capable of understanding. Ask for Dale ###-###-####
My boyfriend had the same problem. You can go to AutoZone and have them hook the machine and they can tell you what is wrong. My boyfriend did this and found out what was wrong and fixed. For some reason, his check engine light wouldnt go off so a mechanic told us how to get it to shut off ....so we ended disconnecting the battery cables, letting it sit for a few minutes and than reconnecting than going right away to get the inspection. He passed cause the light was off, and than his light comes back on but of course we still cant figure out why the light wont shut off permanently.
I'm not sure your location, but as far as a non-dealership auto repair service, Trinity Automotive. They have a location in Hurst, and one in Colleyville. Jack Klaus is the owner and he's the nicest and most honest man you could meet. His wife and daughter run the office(at least at the Hurst location where I went), and they, too, are extremely nice. If you have any questions about the work needing to be done, one of them(or one of the other mechanics), will explain it to you fully before any work is done.
I went here on a whim, because of a coupon I found in those circulars that come in the mail once a week for a free diagnostics test, and my car had been acting up. I'm so glad I did. Ended up needing a new intake manifold, which is NOT a cheap procedure anywhere. The price wasn't too bad there though. I will never have anything done elsewhere with the exception of oil changes. These people are down to earth, honest, hard working and well, I just can't say enough good things about them. I was blown away by the quality of service I received.
Another thing that tipped me off to the quality of their service. They had a 1955 Chevy Belair on the rack that the owner had sent them to do a total restoration on, almost completely finished. Anyone who would trust their classic car to a place for total restoration, especially a car that can go for at least $75 grand restored, has to have trust in that facility.
Ok sorry to ramble. As a woman, even one who grew up around cars, and knows a little bit, I also get targeted with that same stereotype you speak of(I hate, hate, hate the way they do that to women). I usually play the role first, seeing how far they will try to spin me. Not once at Trinity did I feel like they were trying to take advantage of me. Totally the opposite in fact.
If you decide to take it somewhere other than a dealer to deal with emission problems, and you're interested in this facility, Trinity's numbers are: Hurst ###-###-####) and Colleyville ###-###-####).
If you are not sure why the check engine light is on, you can take it to Auto Zone and have them check it. They have a machine they plug it into and it gives them codes that tells them what part of the engine is not working properly. Then you would have more information when you take it in. Also, I have always heard such great things about Christian Brother's Automotive. I have not personally been there, but many women I know have.
The best place to take a vehicle in for emission work is back to the manufacture dealership. They are factory trained and have base prices, so no one is just going to pull a quote out of their butt for a price. Most shops diag. charge is a little high, but if you get the work done, usually the diag. charge will go into the price of the repair. Also with a dealer doing the repairs, there is a warranty on their work nation wide at the manufactures (so if you are traveling and the same part breaks, you pull into that dealership, show them the invoice and they fix it). HTH.
