I am going to start Algebra next year with my middle schooler. She is using the Prentiice Hall preAlg book right now. I bought this one at a garage sale and it has no teacher's manual. It is very concise and has been easy to teach from., but it is the actual textbook from the public school system.
I have used Singapore but for the higher math classes it isn't a good fit. ~too integrated
Saxon is too slow and laborious.
Does any one have a good Algebra math book? I am not afraid of math and am looking for a thorough Algebra education that she will be able to pass the VA end of class test and then move to high school Geometry.

Teaching Textbooks is a great program but it is a little pricey! The good thing is resell on ebay is very good, you can almost get what you paid for it.

I have a FANTASTIC algebra program. And it's a grand total of $35. And ditto... as much as *I* love Singapore, it doest work for our kiddo either.

It's in the Math 2 album towards the back. There's also a geometry album.
Both of the Montessori albums are fairly basic (but VERY detailed, and several hundred pages long, AND free)... but the Hands on Equations for Algebra is phenomenal.

We home schooled our 11 year old daughter for 5th grade because we were abroad. We used EnVison Math for 5th grade. We loved it. It included a lot of 6th and 7th grade work too. When she went to a private school for 6th grade, she had no problem with it, even though they were using a 7th grade math textbook already because in all grades they are a year ahead in math. Go online and check the series in all subjects....

I loved Abeka for algebra. It was very challenging and but I ended up two grade levels ahead of my peers.

I homeschooled both of my boys all the way through precalculus. The Prentice Hall Math books are fantastice and can be ordered as a homeschooler through Oasis Publishing on line. They are unfortunately very expensive and as you increase in difficulty, the changes in the graphing calculator used become more difficult to figure out. We knew Texas Instruments number virtually by heart. However, Prentice Hall does have some on-line tutorials that I should have taken greater advantage of. I did not find them until my 2nd son was going through Geometry and Algebra II. (We used Prentice Hall Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II.
We did switch to Bob Jones University Press Distance Learning for our Pre-Calculus class. At the time their distance learning was done on satelite feed, now it is done on-line. I do think that all of the Bob Jones classes are excellent. You may want to check those things out.
