Would anyone know of a good homeopathic doctor for babies in Houston? My baby has ear infections and eczema and I’m trying to find help without having to go to his pediatrician who always prescribes antibiotics and steroid creams… Is there another way out there? Please help.

What can I do next?

I don't know of any homeopaths in the area (though I'd be interested in finding one). I do know of a midwife who is also a Naturopath, though. (You can find her here: http://www.myhealthfreedom.com/cms/index.php?id=59 ) Regardless of finding an alternative doctor, you may want to look for another pediatrician who will explore options beyond simply medicating the symptoms.

It sounds like your baby likely has food allergies, which often cause problems like eczema and repeated ear infections. Try removing the major allergens - milk, eggs, wheat, soy - from his and/or your diet (while breastfeeding). You can try one at a time. Keep track in a notebook/journal of his symptoms and what foods he's eating, as well as what you're consuming if nursing. This may give you a good clue as to what it is. When the food is removed, you may see a drastic improvement, or you may see gradual improvement over time. Don't expect full results for at least a few weeks. There are wonderful resources for allergy help out there, including other mothering forums with large areas dedicated specifically to this type of issue!

I applaud your searching for new answers! Steroid creams are pretty scary. When he flares, try calendula creams, which many eczema-moms swear by. CaliforniaBaby.com also has a trial pack of items that are loved by their customers for eczema, so you can try a variety and see what works best for your little guy.

Hi, I use Dr. Nellie Grose at the Center for Health and Healing, she see children as well. I like her because she is also an M.D. She is on Wescott at Memorial Drive. You can call for a referral if she is not close to you.
Best of luck, you are definetly doing the right thing by not opting for always going with the prescription route, preventive is better in the long run!

I know of a homeopathic doctor, her name is Cynthia Tate. I dont know that she takes any insurances but she only charges around $50 a visit plus the cost of herbs. I have heard great things about this doc and I am actually going to see her myself. I dont know if she takes children though I dont see why not. Heres her number ###-###-####. Hope this helps.

I too am checking in on this. I would love to find a good homeopathic doctor. The MD one is intreaguing to me.

Anyway, one of the things that has really helped my son with his eczema flairs is Peanut oil. I apply sparsely and by morning the flair ups are almost gone!

I also tried Dreft, and found that actually made his reactions worse. I don't use the ALL products, but Tide Free. That has helped him tremendously.

Also, I have found he needs "natural" clothing. No polyesters, rayons, or plastics. Gotta keep him in cottons. I just found shirts made of bamboo...we're trying them.

My little guy loves strawberries. But strawberries really don't like him.

There's other foods that he can't tolerate too, but I say just use your head. If the little guy breaks out, avoid the food or the irritant. If he complains of being hungry, feed him.

With the ear aches, I would wonder if he's around a lot of cigarette smoke, or is he in the process of cutting teeth? I found during the time my kids cut their teeth, they tend to be more prone to ear infections. Try getting the little guy to sleep with his head elevated (put some blocks under the head end of the mattress...only an inch or two should do the trick. You don't want the nose to drain into his ears.

I suffered from Eczema as a child and have managed to keep my 2 year old from getting it, he is a daycare baby.
You want to abstain from any soap or detergent with fragrance, even Dreft. Use ALL free & Clear to wash baby's clothes and ivory soap to wash baby. Keep it simple. A good lotion to use is Eucerin (with green top) to heal the rash.
I've also found Castor Oil to be very effective (topically) for skin irritations. It seems sticky but apply before bedtime and put long PJ's on, it will have absorbed into the skin by morning.

homopathic doctors almost killed a friend of mine's child that had bad ear infections. he ended up malnourished from this stupid diet they gave him to help cleanse the body. this was also in houston. children and ear infections go together in many circumstances. allergies, colds and cigarette - 2nd hand smoke will do it. a child with frequent ear infections normally will get tubes in their ears for a short time till they grow out of the stage where there ears can drain properly on there own. the middle ear on babies is angled in such a way that bacteria collects there and causes a bacteria infection. the fluid that collects there will clear up from the infection but fluid its self will remain. to help clear it up, feed your baby upright with a bottle, never laying down. also keep airways clear, if your child has a runny nose, use suction, nasal saline, vaporizor, etc to keep them breathing clear to stop from more fluid build up in ears. as for the eczema in babies, they do grow out of it. you can treat it with out steriod creams unless they have a bad breakout then the cream is neccessary, but as it has virtually cleared up, slowly decrease use over a week to keep from a new out break. mean time keep baths frequent & short with lukewarm water, using a very small amount of baby cleanser as possible in stratigic spots. other then that just use water. then taking your baby out of the tub, put lotion on before drying to lock in moisture because lack of moisture is a problem in eczema in babies and toddlers.they recommend to moisturize 2x a day. i found this info to be really great when dealing with twins suffering from the same thing. good luck and remember they do out grow it unless it runs in your family in adults as well.
