Homemade Baby Wipes - Layton,UT

If money is the issue, many years ago, I made my own with my husbands old tee shirts. They went right in the diaper pail and I washed them with the diapers. Only bought them for going out. Saved a bunch.

I'm not saying this to be ugly or anything, I'm just curious -why would you want to make your own wipes? Viva paper towels are more expensive than most packs of wipes I get, so I'm just wondering.

My daughter makes some great little wipes that she uses on her son all the time...but they aren't the disposable kind...she makes them from 100% cotton material, and sews 2 layers together on her sewing machine. She makes small ones...about 6 inches square to use as wipes....and larger ones...about 16 inches square that they use as wonderful reusable napkins at the table. If you would like to have more details on how she makes them , message me and I will send you her website...on one of her blogs she told how she made them and had some pictures of them. She has a waterproof bag that she carries damp ones in when they are away from home...so that they are always available and ready to use.

We use Bounty. Works great.

I second the idea of cutting up old fabric. You'll save a tons doing that vs paper towels.

I've used Scott paper towels and have had great success. I used to cut the roll in half, remove the cardboard tube, place the half roll of paper towels on a wipes box, then pour a solution of boiling water, baby oil and liquid baby wash on top. Once the roll cooled I put the lid on my container, pulled a wipe through the center opening (from the center of the roll) and I was done. I would usually make two containers at a time while the baby was little. When they were older and I changed less diapers I made only one box at a time.

Not sure if you're into this, but the whole purpose of wipes is to clean the baby's face and buttocks area and give it a fresh scent versus using toilet paper. It also serves as portable and convenient. But an alternative to that is to use or carry around a wash rag, damp it with soap and water, wipe, wash outand use again, especially if you're home.

Nope...Viva held up the best for me too.

i just use whatever, i just keep a roll of paper towels, i like the choose a size kind, and a bottle of water on the changing table. though when he has rash issues i use the bounty in the pink package. more $ but super soft.

I agree about using cloth wipes! Love, love, love my cloth wipes! Where I would have to use 3 paper wipes I only need to use 1 cloth wipe. You can easily make your own out of flannel or a good cotton terry. And they will last forever. I'm still using the wipes I bought when my daughter was 4 months old and she is 26 months old! Talk about savings. I only ever buy a small package of wipes to put in the diaper bag so in almost 2 years I've spent well under $20 on wipes.

The only reason I bought rather than made my own was I found some that were seconds and they were on clearance so it made them super cheap!

I used nearly every brand (aka what happened to be on sale). Brawny, Bounty, Viva, whatever. All I did though was get them wet and wring them out. The only brand that didn't stand up were the recycled ones.

I used Bounty, but as another mom said, I found regular wipes were cheaper than making my own. I usually just used regular wash clothes in the wipes solution, though. Then I really did save money.

If you aren't using the choose a size with the viva I would switch to them. I use them as my regular paper towels and rarely have to use more than 1.
