I also make my own baby food and desserts as well. I put them straight into the freezer. It should not harm anything and the food is always fresh.
Best Wishes.

When you freeze your food or purees do you chill it first in the first or put it in the freezer while the food is still warm? Does it make any difference?
I just ended up letting it cool to room temp before freezing. I mainly did this because I ended up doing a bunch of other stuff in the kitchen... but after reading the posts, I think I'll continue to do that. Thanks for the great posts everyone!

I put it straight in the freezer after making it. I don't think it makes a difference. Hope that helps!

warm is ok. it really would only make a difference if you were using glass or stoneware--something that a big temperature change might not withstand. but the food being warm going into the freezer wont hurt anything.
Dear C.,
I think that it would be a good idea to cool it before freezing, just cock the lid so that the moisture won't collect on the inside of the lid and drip down on the food. C. N.
For me it would depend on what it was. I made all 3 of my kids babyfood. Just fruits and veggies, most of my fruits weren't cooked-so after I pureed them i'd just pour them in the ice cube trays, once frozen i'd pop them out and put the cubes in a labeled freezer ziploc. If it was hot, like green beans i'd puree it, then but the blender pitcher in the fridge for a while. I didn't want to deal w/ spilling the hot food on me. once it cooled i'd do the ice cube tray thing again.
I put my baby food into ice cube trays and freze immediately, while still warm. After they are frozen, I pop them into ziplock bags: makes for very convenient portioning!
I never did, I just let it cool normally and then freeze. Do you have the Super Baby food book? It was so helpful to me.
it is never that great of an idea to put hot food in a plastic container while it's still hot because the heat help cause the chemicals in the plastic to leach into the food. (Just like not putting plastic into the microwave -not good for the food). I suggest letting the food cool to room temperature or slightly warm before storing it.
other than that it probably doesn't make that much of a difference.
Hey there!
Everything that I have read says to cool it first- One site said to put it in the fridge immediately and then the freezer.
Check our "Baby's First Meals" which has some good recipes and also www.wholesomebabyfood.com/
Good luck!

I use to let mine cool first. There is a great book called "Super Baby Food". It has lots of recipes in it and is VERY thorough on all aspects of making your own baby food. Good luck!
Hi C.,
I am a first time mom with a 10 1/2 month old boy. I make his food and freeze the veggies with the ice cube tray method. I have let it cool for maybe 10 minutes if it is really hot but usually I just put it right away in the freezer overnight and it comes out just fine. Hope this helps!!

When I made my sons babyfood, I never made enough at a time to freeze; I just made him some of what I was having....
However, I know that for every 20 minutes you leave food out, it doubles in bacteria. So I would say freeze it right away, don't bother letting it cool on the counter or fridge first. I think the cold blast in the freezer would stop the bacteria before it has a chance to start multiplying......
And good for you for making his food! ( =
