My husband has a terrible ear ache however we have no health insurance so he isn't able to go to the doctors. Does anyone know of any home remedies for this? I heard you can put peroxide in your ear to soothe it, but I'm not sure if that's a safe alternative.

What can I do next?

Warm up some olive oil and put a few drops into the ear. Then seal it with a coton ball. This is what my mother always did for us when we were small and I still use this method today. It soothes the ear and the olive oil is perfectly harmless.

When I was a kid I used to get ear aches and infections all the time. My M. used to have an old wool sock that she would fill with rock salt and then put in the oven until it heated and up and I would lay my head on that and I guess it must have helped since that was what she always did. Probably any warm compress would work though.

Also take a decongestant (high powered decongestant) and that may help along with a tylenol for the pain.

Earaches are horrible. I feel for your poor hubby.

Good luck.

I know you are trying to avoid the cost of dr. visit, so I'm not sure if this is helpful.

2 weeks ago, my 2 daughters and my husband all had a virus that turned into ear infections. I was bound and determined NOT to get it. So with all the extra washing I could do, I mentioned it to my chiropractor (whom I'm see because of a recent car accident). He adjusted each of my ears! He mentioned it aligns the drainage tubes, and that I would hear and feel the trickling of fluid afterward. Well, I did! I think it was what kept me from getting an ear infection when I got a slight case of the virus they got.

Something to look into??

I know you don't have insurance but he needs to be seen by a doctor and then take whatever the doctor prescribes. If you try to self-treat, and he has an infection, there is no home remedy strong enough that it will cure the infection; he would need antibiotics. If you let the cost prevent you from seeing a doctor, getting a diagnosis and getting medication, and this is an infection, your husband could suffer permanent hearing loss. Imagine the costs of that, and weigh it against the cost now of paying for a doctor and medications. Please don't rely on home remedies for this and risk his hearing or risk the infection spreading in his body. The cost of a hospital visit will far outweigh the cost of a doctor visit and drugs now.

He may end up in an emergency room anyway if the pain is that bad.

Ask about sliding scale fees or payment plans, wherever you go.

ive done the peroxide before and i couldnt really tell that it helped much. But a warm wash rag laying on and behind the ear helps and lots of sinus meds and tyenol. Most ear aches are due to sinus pressure so if you can get rid of that it helps. hopes he gets to feeling better soon..

Search the internet for garlic and/or mullien oil. Garlic has antibacterial properties. There is good research out there to support that this is just as effective ,if not moreso, then antibiotics. I used it on both of my kids twice and it worked for us.

It all depends on what is wrong. If he feels like he has fluid in his ear you can do a ear candling. It looks weird but helps. Look it up online. Or you can put warm oil in it that will draw the fluid out. Then I would take some decongestents, probiotics and some vitamin a's.

Good luck and God Bless!

My husband swears by liquid silver.. It's all natural and found at the vitamin shoppe... He gets " Sovereign Silver".. When he gets sinus infections, he puts it in his nose, ear aches in the ears, sore throat under his tongue..

How about going to a Pharmacy clinic? I don't know how expensive it is, but if the pain is due to an ear infection, he will NEED antibiotics. There are certain things you need a doctor/nurse for.
Hope your husband feels better.

Hylands has ear ache drops. Any pharmacy/drug store carries them. Usually ear infections clear up in 72 hours with no antibiotics. Hope he's better soon!

Warm compresses on the ear always helped me when I was younger, and a few months ago when I had an ear ache. There are also drops at the pharmacy that you can buy. I read an article recently that said that usually, a dr. visit is not necessary for ear aches, the infection will go away on it's own. However, if his ear starts to drain, or if your husband hears a sound like ripping, which would indicate ear drum rupture, he needs to go immediately.

Also ear candling doesn't work. At all.
