Just wondering if any moms out there would like to share some tried and true home remedies. What made me think of this is my son has croup and a friend suggested putting Vicks on his feet and covering with socks. This made me remember that my grandmother gave us "ginger tea" when we were sick. It was ginger, honey, and either warm milk or warm water. Tasted horrible but it worked! I am sure that a lot of people have their favorite tricks that work for them when someone comes down with something. It would be really nice to have something "in the back of my mind" to remember when illness strikes!

Thanks!

M.

Gargling with warm salt water will help a sore throat...taste disgusting but to this day I still do this when needed. Works great! Thanks Grandma

This next one sounds gross but helps...I am allergic to bees. When I was younger I stepped on a bee and my foot started to swell...my father chewed up tobacco from his cigarette and put it on my foot, it helped. That was the only time I didn't have to get a shot and take a whole bunch of gigantic pills. Thanks Dad

When my son and I moved to the Bay Area we got really bad ear infections and hearda alot of weird tricks. The grossest was urine in the ears. Never could try that one, but the best thing I ever hear d was;Olive oil and garlic on a cotton ball in the ear. you put olive oil and garlic in a little bowl and warm it up just a little bit then put it in your ear and stick a cotton ball in to keep it in there. I swear by this remedy. The side effect I never imagines was I got hit on by every Italian man I came in contact with. It was great!!!

My sister-in-law is an organic, homeopathic yogi, and swears by Thieves Oil. It has many useful properties and contains eucalyptus, among many other natural ingredients. Can be used on the soles of the feet or the chest for congestion. You can google it to find where it is available.
