My husband and I are interested in selling our home and looking to buy another home soon. Where do we start in finding out the value of our current home?? Do we need to get an "appraisal", "inspection", one or both. Please help us!! What companies in the area are trustworthy for these services?? Any advise will be great!!

My husband is a realtor and works mostly in Flower Mound/Lewisville. When he lists a home, he does a comp (market comparison) for them. He has a system that works. It's a great sign you are looking for the market value of your home rather than just pulling a number out of the air. Homes priced right sell quickly, esp. in this buyer's market. Hi J.,
I am a Realtor and my advice is to contact a licensed Realtor in your area. The job of a Realtor is to research the area and suggest an appropriate selling price based on comparable properties in your area. We look at everything - neighborhood, schools, amenities, upgrades,etc.
In regards to an inspection, this will be done by the buyer when an offer has been accepted. If you do an inspection on your own you are required, by law, to disclose that inspection. Hope that helps!

Neither... call a Realtor first. They will be able to give you an estimated home value report, and tell you what needs to be done in order to sell your home. It is not a bad idea to have a pre-list inspection done if you are concerned with repairs, but again consult with a Realtor first, and they can give you references to compaines to use.

I'm actually a Realtor and not sure where you are located, but I have a large team that covers most of the metroplex. So if I can't help you, I can certainly refer you! I would be happy to give you a Market Analysis to help get you started.
