Dimetapp, it's for kids 6 and older.
Benedryl/zertek can make some kids hyper, and some kids sleepy, and in my case it makes my son hyper and him not wanting to go to sleep at night.
Is there an alternative allergy meds that would not make my kid so "awake" and hyper? When I don't give it to him, he goes to sleep within half hour to an hour (depending on his mood), but with... OH boy!..... he would be up waaaayyy past 10pm
Thanks in advance! (Forgot to mention, my boy is 2.5 years old.)
Eh.. i guess I could give it to him in the morning instead... but it would be a relief to know there is something out there that does not have this effect on him.

Yes, and it can happen in adults too.
My daughter (2.5 y/o) doesn't get sleepy either. I give it to her from morning-afternoon and just let her skip her nap. That way by the time evening rolls around it's worn off. If I need to give her something to help with pain then I give her children's advil. I only do that when it's for a rash thats uncomfortable rather then just for seasonal allergies.
They have children's Allegra which is safe for 2+, but I only used it 1 day so I can't say for sure if it kept her awake, made her sleepy, or worked just as well. The Children's Claritin didn't work as well as bendryl for mine, but it might for you.
Hope this helps. =)
Have you tried the dye free. I give my kiddos claritin they are 2 1/2 & 6 1/2 yrs old.
The dr. Recommended melt away tab claritin. Maybe call nurse to check.
You give it to them in the morning instead of at bedtime. Ask if he can try clariton. I don't know what else is out there. My kids get the best relief and ni side effects from flonase.
Forget the drugs, all of which have potential negative side effects, and use the Reliv nutritional supplements that my friend Lori's daughter has been using for years. Not only is she symptom-free of her allergies, but also no longer has asthma episodes that used to land her in the emergency room. She isn't cured of her allergies & asthma, as she occasionally has a return of symptoms when she's neglected to drink her daily Reliv shakes, but then she just has to get back to drinking them regularly to breathe free again & not have her allergy symptoms.
Look up the known side effects of the medications, realize that there are probably unknown or unadmitted ones, also, and then decide whether you'd rather give those to your kid or a healthy nutritional supplement that has no warnings because it causes no harm & that will probably improve your son's health in a lot of other ways rather than just masking allergy symptoms.
Send me a message if you want to talk with Lori about her daughter's health results.
