The FIRST thing I would do would be to go to the Dr. and find out what is causing the fever and get some peace of mind.

That said, 102 is not extremely high but something is going on in her body. Is she teething by chance? Allergies?

Motrin is good to get a fever under control fast but I would not wait and see more than 24-36 hours with my child.

Try putting her in a luke warm bath and sponging water on her. Start at her headand work your way down. You may need to do it 3-4 times for 5-10min until it breaks. This and motrin was the only way I got my daughters fever to break when it was 103 not too long ago. Hope this helps!

Fevers are an indication that the body is fighting off something. It may be a good idea to get her to the dr. depending on what other symptoms she has. She mayb need an antibiotic to fight what is going on. Good luck!

Well first of all, I know it is hard not to worry, but do know that a 102 fever is not that high, and actually fairly normal for a child her age. You can just watch her for a day or two, unless some worrisome symptom appears. She can have Motrin or tylenol for the fever, even rotating them every 3 hours if you really cant get the fever to go down. For me, I let them run a fever until they are clearly uncomfortable, as the fever is the bodies way of killing whatever infection is causing the problem. She can certainly take a bath too...not cold, but lukewarm. And the best thing for her is to keep her hydrated...lots of water, popsicles, anything she will do really. If it gets up to over 103 and you cant get it back down, then call the dr. but in my experience, you can take a wait and see approach for now. Hope she gets better soon! ~A.~

Please call your doctor. A fever is an indication of something -- and if it is an ear infection, there is nothing you could buy over the counter that is going to cure it. Since it is costly to go to the doctor -- get good value for your money buy asking a lot of questions, so you will perhaps gain a better understanding about what could be addressed over the counter, and when it would serve your child best to see the doctor.
