Correction: The 3 schools here are GREAT, not "bad". Calvary Academy-- wow! I'd never send my kids there. I teach at the college level, and the Ryan/Denton/Guyer kids are far more prepared (at least in English) than Calvary. We are zoned to Denton but will likely move into the Guyer zone just because Denton is quite far from where we live-- we are closer to Corinth and do everything on this side of town. All schools have good test scores and decent "Great Schools" ratings; Guyer's is EXCELLENT. Then again, there aren't many economically disadvantaged kids in the Guyer zone, and no, there's nothing wrong with having diversity in our schools. Good luck-- can't go wrong here!!

My husband is a school administrator in Denton ISD. We have lived and worked here for many years. He has worked at Denton High and Ryan High and we know many teachers and staff at Guyer.
The bottom line, as wtih ANY public school, is this: there are "bad" kids at every school adn there are "good" kids at every school; there are "bad" teachers at every school and tehre are "good" teachers at every school. The adminstration at each of the high schools in Denton is great. Each school excels in certain areas extracurricularly. Your friends ought to find the neighborhood they like and go from there. :)

My vote is for Ryan High School...my daughter graduated from there. The adminstration really did a good job...the Principal is awesome! My daughter has multiple learning disabilities (in all mainstream classes) and she had many excellent teachers who went above and beyond. She also danced on the drill team all through high school, so we saw the student body conduct themselves, at sporting events, as a class act (without fail). I hope this helps!

I live in Denton and from the talk of friends who have kiddos in high school, really none of them are great. I have heard a lot of bad things about Ryan High. My son is in Elementary and we are planning on going to Calvary Academy Its located off of University drive in Denton. It’s a private Christian school. I have also heard great things about Corm Deo in Flower mound also. You can always check the test scores on greatschools.com but honestly that just gives you the test score not really the atmosphere of the school. Hope you find a school that fits your family.

I don't have any school age kids yet, but we are zoned to go to Guyer. I have heard great things about it. The area around the school is great also.
