My daughter had a terrible time getting her schedule this year. We finally got it tweaked and she is taking Latin 2 in the Latin 4 class.

The teacher did not want to do this but the counselor persuaded her to try it for one semester. Well, now she loves my daughter, took her on the Latin convention trip, has her participating in the Latin 4 class's discussions, gives her Latin 2 and Latin 4 work. .

My daughter is a senior.

This teacher has gone over and above what was expected of her.
What can I get her for Christmas?

I would like to get something nicer than just a gift card, which her other teachers will get.

Any ideas?

Thanks mamas

So What Happened?

Gratias tibi!!!!!
I even saved some of these.

I always wonder if gc are really that much appreciated. Since so many of the teachers on here love them that is the way to go, with maybe some goodies.
I will have my daughter write her a nice letter too.
And I am definitely saying something to the principal. I will write a letter to him and give her a copy. What a good idea.

She is the only Latin teacher so my other daughter will get her next year, and have her for 4. :o) I hope she stays.

How about a gift card and a cute Latin gift? I get a lot of catalogs that have cute t-shirts or mugs with Latin sayings, and this website has some funny ones. Maybe a mug with a saying, filled with some candy or treats and a gift card to the local popular coffee shop? Another option is that personalizationmall.com has a lot of gifts you can personalize, like photo frames. Maybe you could get something with a Latin phrase on it from there.

I teach high school, and totally agree with the others. A note or letter from your daughter is a fabulous idea, and honestly, any gift will be much appreciated. I get a few gifts each year, but most gifts are given to elementary teachers. Gift cards may seem impersonal, but they are put to good use.

I teach English, but I have my students do several creative projects throughout the year, and some of them are amazingly talented. Some of my favorite gifts are students' artwork. Some of them have created original pieces for me, and others have framed their assignments from class. I love them all! One student noticed that I love flowers, but she wasn't very artistic, so she bought a beautiful flower print and had it framed for me. It hangs in my bedroom now. Since this is a Latin teacher, you could get her a print of Rome and frame that. There are probably some really cool ones to choose from.

It's wonderful of you to show appreciation for your daughter's teachers. I hope she enjoys the rest of her senior year! :)

I was a teacher for 40 years, and the items I treasure (and still have) are things the student or parent made like aprons, plastic canvas, a Christmas scene homemade with deer and elves that were bought, but put together by the student.
I also kept very nice letters, with students telling me how much they appreciated what I did for them. In this time of so much non-respect; knowing someone really cares is important!!

As a teacher I can tell you that honestly, a gift card is the way to go. I love being able to go shopping for myself while I'm off for Xmas vacation. If you want to add something personal to it, write her a heartfelt thank you. Not only will it mean a lot, but she can also put it in her personal portfolio.

I gave a favorite teacher a gift certificate from a local nursery, because I knew that she was a gardener and was changing out some of her bushes. That costs money. She was thrilled.

I spent more on this teacher's gift than for any other teacher. But I really liked her, and you know what, she became a personal friend, visited us overseas, I see her every year, and she sent a wonderful gift to my son for his graduation. Sometimes you really know when a teacher is really important to you and your child, together. Being a parent is hard, and sometimes a teacher can make being a parent easier.

I don't know if that helps you, but it sure brings good fuzzy feelings to me while writing this!

In addition to whatever your choose, I'd suggest you write a letter to her superintendent, with a copy to her. After all, the bosses always hear about the difficulties. It would be wonderful for them to hear what a wonderful learning opportunity your daughter has had.

This sounds corny, but a hand-written thank you note from you and maybe even one from your daughter would mean a LOT to the teacher. They rarely get personal thank you notes.

No matter the gift, have your daughter, first, write a heart-felt thank you note. What this teacher is doing is very difficult to do.

If you still believe a gift card does not involve enough thought, perhaps your daughter could create a poster that is worthy of hanging on the wall in the classroom, either drawn or made with computer graphics. Get it laminated or framed for longevity. Brightening the room is always nice.

Go to a good bookstore and find out what special book a Latin teacher would drool over.

Have your daughter offer to help pack up the room at the end of the year.

Have her offer to check Latin 1 quizzes.

Yep, I'm a hs teacher. Really, a gift card is nice. It's the elementary teachers who get the presents.

It's funny that you say nicer than a gift card. As a teacher, gift cards are my absolute favorite gifts!!! That would be the present that topped my list!

Include a warm letter telling her how much you appreciate her involvement with your daughter.

Perhaps you daughter knows her hobbies or her likes. For example, if she wears scarves your daughter might know the colors she wears and you could give her a scarf or jewelry.
