High Pressure Shower Head

We live in a coop apartment. There is little I can do to increase the water pressure into my apartment. Is there any shower head that brings it down hard? Like hard enough to scrub an elephant? I am tired of these spring rain types of shower heads. Just spent $90 for a delta model at Home Depot and I feel like a beggar standing under the shower hoping to get wet, hoping the flow might penetrate through my hair to my scalp.

There are two separate issues - one is the pressure of the water coming into your apartment. The other is the restrictor on the showerhead. Not much you can do about what's coming in. But, on the inside of shower heads, there is a water restrictor. This keeps the showerhead in compliance in areas that require limiting water usage. You can remove the restrictor to see if that helps. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlklQH85Hec

We did this a little while ago.
We looked for a hand held model that was high pressure that had an easily removable water restrictor - and removing that little thing is what really does the trick.
See if you can remove it from the model you just got.
You can Google how to do it.

If you have to get another shower head then take a look here and see if there's something that will work for you:

I like being able to wash shampoo out of my hair and not take 10 min trying to do it with a shower that barely gets you wet.

They sell this type of shower head for home or RV's. I was planning on replacing the shower head in our travel trailer with one, since the water pressure varies at each camp ground.

They always seem to have good ratings at the different websites I have seen them on.

I understand.

With our hand held shower head, the water restrictor is actually in the shower arm mount. We replaced ours with this Delta model from Home Depot and our water pressure is back.

Now the only trouble I have is going to hotels with the low flow shower heads. I'm always happy to return home!

Nothing you can do about what's coming in, of course, other than to shower at odd times when perhaps others are not using water. The pressure often drops during peak times.

If you have a shower head that diffuses the water through a large number of openings in a wider spray, it's going to be weaker. If you get one of those adjustable ones that lets you dial different settings, and you switch it to one of the "massage" type settings with fewer openings, it will be a harder flow because it's being forced through few outlets. Some of them even pulse a bit - sometimes that makes even more flow on the "beat" vs. the "rest".

Put the $90 one on Craigslist (saying it was used twice or whatever), you can put the resale money toward something else. Try Bed Bath & Beyond - they always have 20% off coupons (like Macy's "one-day sales", they operate year round!).

not much you can do. after removing the restrictor and having a showerhead with as few holes as possible. if everyone in your building has low waterpressure issues you could talk to the landlord about ways to increase the pressure to everyone, but that could get expensive to do.

My favorite is called a "navy showerhead" or a super high efficiency showerhead. They're easy to find at Walmart or wherever and I replace every showerhead with them because it's what I prefer. It's small and plain looking, but really works great in a low pressure environment. Here's a link to the one I have. I think Walmart carries them for around $6-7 depending on whether or not you get the shutoff valve (I do).

Sometimes the water pressure is a problem with the plumbing and where you are in a building, etc. Not much you can do about that unless you speak to landlord or get someone in.

We have a shower head that offers different sprays. I need the scrub the elephant kind myself too.

The rest are more that rain-shower effect you describe.

The one that was here when we moved in was more of a low-flow shower head model. We had those in our old house too. I take shorter showers with more pressure now and am happier.

If I can find our model I'll post a link.

I actually had an old shower head that would scrub an elephant. I had it for 20 years. I loved it. I forced myself to get rid of it because I felt guilty using so much water, and switched to a low flow. I have gotten used to the low flow, and I feel much better about myself. Of course I don't have to deal with low water pressure in an apartment building. Anyway, maybe you could check thrift shops? I'm sure lots of old shower heads get sent to the thrift shops when people switch to low flow.
