High-calorie Diet- HELP

We just got back from my daughter's 15 month appointment and she is in the 9th percentile for weight. She has always been small (usually closer to 20th percentile). The doctor would like us to try putting her on a high-calorie/ high fat diet. She gave us some suggestions but I was wondering if anyone had any good ides/recipes to help with this. One particular concern is meat. She will find and pick out any meat, so any ideas on effective ways to "hide meat" would be excellent.

Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

a child who does not like meat, (yet) will pick it out and can taste it no matter what. My son was like that at least.

Try:
Fish
beans
avocados
peanut butter
butter in cooking
cheese
whole milk
nuts (but it can be a choking hazard in a baby)
hummus
using olive oil in cooking/dips/sauces
- Pediasure (which is a 'meal drink' for kids and it has protein in it). It is used often for kids who are picky.
- have her "graze" throughout the day, instead of just having her eat "all" her calories at 3 meals only. Give her snacks throughout the day.
-Smoothies with peanut butter/milk in it.

Have your Pediatrician give you suggestions for foods... or have him/her refer you to a Pediatric Nutritionist...

All the best,
Susan

When my son was 1, we went to a nutritionist, who recommended that we add mayonnaise, powdered milk, and peanut butter to his food. I don't remember what the nutritionist said about meat, but I do remember trying to get my son to eat tiny ham cubes with a toothpick, lunch meat cut in fun shapes with food coloring, and chicken dipped in honey. What about tofu, which has a smoother texture? Also here is a similar question I saw:

Smoothies are great. Putting full fat cottage cheese in it would be great.
Something else that tastes good is Jello, cottage cheese, yougurt & fruit in the blender. Once blended let it set up like regular jello. Tastes great and is full of protein (and fat if using full fat version). When she eats sandwiches, spread butter on the bread first.

I personally wouldn't be concerned about meat itself. Beans and fish are great. She may just have a natural tendency to be more vegetarian. Check out the Blood Type Diet. May be very informative about her tendencies.

First of all- she doesnt need to eat meat to gain weight or get proper nutrition. Our son is a vegatarian mostly, hes 2.5, like his mom and dad and he is a BIG boy. He does take a few vitamin supplements like omega-3 and probiotic and a regular multivitamin. He loves all the 'Morning Star' and other brands of veggie food and fake bacon too. They make tons of that kind of stuuf and the best thing is it is all made from...VEGGIES!! I know its not nearly as good as eat a carrot or some spinach leaves but he loves this stuff. Try some on her they sell it at every grocery store in the freezer section. I know there are prob some cookbooks out there that you could google on the internet. But i wouldnt really stress the 'no meat' thing. Maybe try getting a vegetarian cookbook.

Ther are some great natural products that I love to give to my son on Nature's Sunshine website.

Gook Luck and I hope you foiund this helpful in some way.
