Speaking of herpes,
I have frequent outbreaks or almost outbreaks. It is often diet or sleep related, but I seem to be super sensitive and just a little transgression will set me off. Sometimes i think i must be low in some nutrient to be so susceptible. What do you ladies out there with herpes do to manage it? how do you help your bodies be strong?

For cold sores, I've taken Lysine daily, for over 20 years years. It doesn't stop them completely, but definitely makes them less severe...mine are triggered mainly by emotional upsets.

Hi P.,
I am a Shaklee Distributor and have my own small business offering natural vitamins, etc... One of the books I use to guide me to help others is by Dr. Richard Brouse and it is called "Build a Better You." He talks about herpes and cold sores, etc...He says many things. If you want me to read it to you contact me.....about what to avoid eating, etc... He also suggests a topical application of tea tree oil or grapefruit seed extract to possibly shorten the length of the outbreak and severity of pain. The most important thing I would think you would want to do is to build the immune system. He lists some supplements that would particularly help. Vitamin B and C would be a start, but there is more. If I can help you further let me know.

Hi P.,
I too have frequent outbreaks, I take Lysine a natural supplement. You can read about it's benefits online. I take it for awhile during flare ups and it does prevent a full blown cold sore, I also have a script for Valtrex. Hope this helps.

Yep to everything the others have said - no sugar, yes lysine and acyclovir. Avoid peanuts and peanut butter, they have an amino acid that can trigger outbreaks if you're sensitive.

I haven't had an outbreak since I cleaned up my body with the Ultrametabolism diet by Dr. Hyman. I used to break out so much. Turned out that wheat and sugar were my triggers - I had kept a food/body diary for years before starting the Ultrametabolism thing, and sure enough, every time I had indulged I broke out a 1-2 days later. Since I stopped wheat and sugar, not one!

I've had the herpes virus in some form or fashion all my life from cold sores to shingles. Genital herpes is the one form I haven't had, thank God.
Taking Lysine helps. At the first sensation of a break out, I get acyclovir, that goes for cold sores or shingles. For cold sores, I also swear by Herpecin-L. It comes in a tube like lip-stick and it really helps soothe and keep the sore at bay to an extent. You can find it at most pharmacies. I had shingles so bad it almost killed me and I actually take a seizure medication that helps with the constant nerve pain.
The main thing is getting enough rest, eating a healthy diet, and managing stress which is easier said than done. I also take a mild anti-anxiety medication as needed. When I am over stressed, I feel a break out coming on and then I'm afraid I'll end up back in the hospital with shingles again which makes me more nervous and it's a vicious cycle.
No one else in my family, including my children, has ever even had a cold sore. It's something in my own body. I take vitamins and do what I can to keep my immune system up. Stress is the biggest trigger for me and my life is full of it as a single mom.
It is something that can be managed once you find what works best for you and I hope you get some really great advice here.
You're not alone with the herpes thing, that's for sure.
Best wishes!

I've had it for about 5 years - fortunately for me I do not have frequent outbreaks, maybe once a year or even less- but my sister also has it...she said when she eats tomatoes it triggers one so she has cut that out of her diet. Also, when I first got it whenever I would go out with my friends and drink alcohol (too much alcohol, lol) it would trigger something. I would reccomend trying to keep your immunity up - lots of vitamin C, take vitamins every day, exercise & get enough sleep.

I have herpes and it seems that stress, diet or my underwear causes it if they are not cotton. Sometimes tight pants cause it also. When I got together with my now husband in 2004 I got a prescription of Valtrex and took one a day and rarely had an outbreak. Another thing I use when I get a blister is black walnut extract... I put some on a Q-tip and press it on the blister. It burns but it gets rid of it quickly... you may need to do this several times. You can buy this at a natural food store like Sunshine or whatever is in your area that sells the extracts.

Reading down at the answers, I used to use Lysine and it really did help. Tea tree oil made it worse for me.

Super Lysine Plus - get it at your health food store. Take at first sign of problems or if you even think you will have problems. It works GREAT with viruses. Even shingles.

Then avoid sugar as much as possible especially high fructose corn syrup.

Herpes is a viral infection. And virus thrives and multiplies in acidic environment. Activated liquid zeolite in Natural Cellular Defense is a 100% natural, safe, and science-based detoxifying agent that removes toxins, heavy metals, and carcinogens in the body. It is antiviral, helps balance the pH level, and strengthens the immune system. Other information about the benefits of NCD can be found at www.liquidzeolite.org, a third-party web site.
If you need additional information or have questions about the product, I will be able to help you as I have been using it for almost three years now and I am happy with my health.
Good doctors say that removing the cause of toxemia instead of patching its symptoms is the way to get well.

If your talking about the cold sore, for me they come out during the cold season or when its really hot. They do come and go when they want to. Camphophenic or Bacterin are two medicines you can use. Campho stings as must know. I tried using mouth wash to stop it from coming out. The weather may be a trigger for those things to appear. If you got a sore throat or bad allergies, that can also trigger it. We can't stop them, but we can make them go away. There are other forms of medicines you can use. Good luck. I don't like those things either. G.P.
